Re: The six fingered Clarets
You didn't here him say, when asked about the substitutions "That's why I'm at the football club, to make the big decisions" then? Nip round to mine if you like, I've Sky +'ed it and everything.

Eh? So he didn't claim a tactical masterstroke at all, did he? He said he's at the football club to make big decisions and then something along the lines of "I felt we needed more up top, so that's what I did". Not sure why your getting your knickers in a twist. The interviewer teed him up to have a go at the boo-boys, and he resisted. Thought it was a pretty modest response, myself.

At work so I can't access it, but I thought he followed it up with 'I won't always get them right'. It just didn't strike me as him giving it the big I am. Can you imagine Big Sam post match if he'd made those changes and copped the amount of flack Dougie did!?

Ergo: Claiming a tactical masterstoke. Tis not I that's getting my knickers in a twist - however, it clearly is I that can judge inference.Sponge wrote:Bruce Rioja wrote:You didn't here him say, when asked about the substitutions "That's why I'm at the football club, to make the big decisions" then? FWIW I think he was very modest as well, he had every right to be smug but chose to remain professional instead.

One can only imagine the horror of your VPL.

Re: The six fingered Clarets
Exactly, I think he was claiming he tried something and it worked but he's realistic enough to know that next time it might not. Which is true for all substitutions. He shows restraint in his interviews, doesn't get too excited when he wins, likewise doesn't get down when he loses. Coyle looked like a broken man about to burst into tears at times.
If it were me I'd be slating them after some of the performances, and taking the p!ss out of Eagles' hair.

'Doogie, You're paid to make big decisions'
Not really his words were they?
.
'Give us a little bit more up top, in terms of over the top'.
They were his words, no mention of two up top there!

Re: The six fingered Clarets
Dunno why it's so important to get his exact words down like but...

"In this game you've got to make brave decisions. Sometimes it goes against you, but I'll never shy away from that," he told BBC Radio Manchester.
Businesswoman of the year.
Re: The six fingered Clarets
To me, it seems that when someone misquotes, or attributes something that wasn't said to someone, it's reasonable to challenge that assertion.

Re: The six fingered Clarets
Yep, and in that there is absolutely no suggestion he is claiming to be a tactical genius at all. Quite the opposite in fact, stating that as a manager you make a decision and it can just as easily not work as work.CrazyHorse wrote:Dunno why it's so important to get his exact words down like but...

Re: The six fingered Clarets
It would have been 'braver' to have made the decision at 0-0. I'm not sure it was particularly brave to bring on a couple of strikers when we were chasing the game. He didn't really have much choice at that point. Ultimately though it doesn't matter whether he's a tactical genius or just plain lucky, as long as he gets the right result.
