As bad as this season has been......Wolves managed to lose 5-1 at home.
All is not lost.

All is not lost.

Troll and proud of it.
Re: How many points will it take to stay up?
35 will do it easily.
Drawing games is for wimps, so pick five wins from this lot....
Chelsea (A)
Man City (A)
QPR (H)
Aston Villa (A)
Blackburn (H)
Wolves (A)
Fulham (H)
Newcastle (A)
Tottenham (H)

West Brom (H)
Stoke (A)

Erm........
Re: How many points will it take to stay up?
If we play like did against Liverpool, Everton and Arsenal then thats a piece of piss. Theres more than enough winnable home games. Play like we did against Wigan and we're f***ed.Annoyed Grunt wrote:Erm........

Five obvious possibilities in that lot...
We can all see them...
They aren't all easy, but I don't see many probs with Chelsea and Man City away...

Play the right formation and we can get something at chelsea. After which no doubt we'll switch back to 442 v city. Watching us try to play an open game against that lot could be the funniest thing we see all season.

Or the worst defeat we've ever had in the PremIanmooreslovechild wrote:Play the right formation and we can get something at chelsea. After which no doubt we'll switch back to 442 v city. Watching us try to play an open game against that lot could be the funniest thing we see all season.

When you lose to Wigan at home, against that backdrop, it looks very very hard.
Anyways, I think 35 will be cutting it very fine....
Re: How many points will it take to stay up?
didn't we play 4-4-2 last time round... IIRC it was 3-2 to citeh? (we've had worse defeats!)Ianmooreslovechild wrote:Play the right formation and we can get something at chelsea. After which no doubt we'll switch back to 442 v city. Re: How many points will it take to stay up?
Team- probable-possible (best case sceanrio)
Chelsea (A) 0-1
Man City (A) 0-1
QPR (H) 1-3
Aston Villa (A) 0-1
Blackburn (H)1-3
Wolves (A)1-3
Fulham (H) 1-3
Newcastle (A) 0-1
Tottenham (H) 0-1
Swansea (H) 1-3
Sunderland (A) 0-1
West Brom (H) 1-3
Stoke (A) 0-1
Probable =21+6 =28
Possible = 21+24 = 46
Split the difference you get 37 which is borderline.
We have too much talent to go down. I'm hoping for a late season Holden and Lee boost to get us over the line.

Re: How many points will it take to stay up?
Park the bus at Chelsea and City and hope to nick a point.
Other than that, out the remaining games there are quite a few 'winnable'* and if, IF, he does the right thing and goes back to 4-5-1 then we will draw a couple more also, so i'm going for 16 points out of that lot and hope for the best.
With West Brom winning we are now well & truly stranded in a straight 3 from 5 mini league.
*on paper, ahem.

Re: How many points will it take to stay up?
Which funnily enough a lot of the press are calling it 3 from 4 as they're taking it for granted that QPR will automatically get out of it soon-ish

At home and yes I remember it was a reasonable performance. Actually we beat wigan using 442 at their place.Perhaps you're onto something there.thebish wrote:didn't we play 4-4-2 last time round... God i wish we'd never won at wigan now...thats probably the same logic coyle used in his team selection !
Re: How many points will it take to stay up?
I'm not using that wiggin win to say we SHOULD have played 4-4-2 this time...ohjimmyjimmy wrote:God i wish we'd never won at wigan now...thats probably the same logic coyle used in his team selection !
but I AM using it to counter the - quite ludicrous - argument that seems to have plenty of traction - that it was actually a total impossibility that we could have beaten wigan with 4-4-2 at home given the players we have. It clear wasn't!

Re: How many points will it take to stay up?
but...but....we didnt beat them at home with a 4-4-2?
ergo - and with not a small amount of hindsight - 4-4-2 couldnt beat them at home because it didnt?

Re: How many points will it take to stay up?
not at all - the fact that we didn't doesn't not mean it was impossible. I'm sure you'll see this if you have a cuppa and a piece of cake and consider the issue calmly!ohjimmyjimmy wrote:but...but....we didnt beat them at home with a 4-4-2?

the fact that we were CLEARLY not having a good go with 4-4-2 - SHOULD have led to Coyle changing it - but he didn't - which is his mistake - BUT I am not having it that it was impossible for those players to beat wigan in a 4-4-2 formation - cos that is clearly bollox with a hairy cardigan on!

Re: How many points will it take to stay up?
haha well do we really have to get into a wider argument on what is possible and not possible..?
i will accept that it was not impossible before the game, in the same way thats its still not impossible for me to make the 2012 olympic team as a female javelin thrower...very little in life is impossible, but thats for another day !

Its not impossible for you to swim across the atlantic. However, I'd suggest it highly unlikely and a pretty stupid thing to try.thebish wrote:not at all - the fact that we didn't doesn't not mean it was impossible. And you keep forgetting its not just the system, its the players he insisted on putting into that system and the roles they had to do.
Re: How many points will it take to stay up?
it was clearly more possible than your gender-busting olympic dream - I am not merely talking about theoretical levels of possibility - hence the citing of the fact that we beat them already in a 4-4-2 formation with essentially the same lineup (and hamstrung by Robbo at left back!!!)ohjimmyjimmy wrote:haha well do we really have to get into a wider argument on what is possible and not possible..?

you're forgetting this was WIGAN ffs -they are shoite - we have more than enough quality to play 4-4-2 and beat them IF the players performed to their potential.. YES - maybe they might find it a bit trickier with a formation that does not suit their strengths - but is was eminently possible to beat them.
