This is giving me a headache
Re: mark davies
Liverpool have activated a release clause now in Joe Allen's contract so the wheels are turning there. Only a matter of time now before Swansea come back or turn there attentions to somebody else.
Personally i think around 8 million is a good price but then again look at Jordan Henderson.. Was it something like 20 million?

Anywhere around £8-10M, then yeah, sell Sparky. Because that's the going rate for a young, English, ball-playing midfielder in the Championship. Were we still in the Premier League, then I'd be saying that could go up to about £15M. Any less than that, and we're being royally ripped off.
Odd thing is, some people would still have him bundled in the boot for far less than that...

Well, the speculation in those two great Journals Of Record, the B[M]N and the South Wales Badgerfancier (or whatever), is that Swansea are going to up their bid to £6million.
Reputable Journalist/Scoundrel And Ne'er-Do-Well (delete as appropriate) Alan "Richard" Nixon reckons Coyle wants £10million for him, that Swansea have so far only offered £4million (not the five that Sky etc are reporting), and that there have, as yet, been no further bids.
There you go. I'm reading the Mark Davies stories so you don't have to.

I'd be happy with £6m from Swansea, if Coyle wants to sell him. I doubt they'd stretch to £8-10m.
Quite frankly, if he was someone else's player, I wouldn't either. Yes there's always the "Jordan Henderson's", but unless the bid's coming in from someone with lots of wedge and fcuk all sense, then I can't see us getting £8-£10m.

I honestly reckon Davies is better than Jack Wilshere.... he'll be playing for a top four team in 2 years. So I reckon we should hold out for £10m

Re: mark davies
Swansea fans forum think Mark Davies is better than Joe Allem so would be delighted to sell JA to Liverpool for 15million and buy MD for 6million. An alternative line of thinking was that JA already fits Swansea's style of play so why don't Liverpool just buy MD?

Well, this is another phenomenon. Fans underestimating their own players and assuming others are far better.Bruno3 wrote:Swansea fans forum think Mark Davies is better than Joe Allem so would be delighted to sell JA to Liverpool for 15million and buy MD for 6million. The sort of thinking that leads to "They've offered how much for Davies? I'll drive him there myself", etc.
Related to the belief that someone who's in the reserves, but never plays, will do better than anyone in the current first team. See for example, Andranik Teymourian.

Wilshere's over hyped imo. Vr good n everything but spends half his time diving in recklessly for balls he can't win. Suppose it didn't do Scholes too much harm

Must have been f*cking busy in the other half, considering he outpassed every single team-mate last seasonBWFC_Insane wrote:As opposed to Davies spending half of his time doing the square root of feck all.......Adam Wilson wrote:Wilshere's over hyped imo. To what effect though? The season before it was widely regarded that we completely fell apart when free transfer Holden was injured and Mark Davies had to step in.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Must have been f*cking busy in the other half, considering he outpassed every single team-mate last seasonBWFC_Insane wrote:As opposed to Davies spending half of his time doing the square root of feck all.......Adam Wilson wrote:Wilshere's over hyped imo. I haven't seen any evidence that Mark Davies is a lynchpin of our midfield.
And infact using the stat app belonging to your magazine DSB and comparing the player influence attributed to Mark Davies for the last 6 or so games of last season with Holden from the last 6 games he played the season before is somewhat telling.
Sort of backsup my 'impression' that Mark Davies was not nearly as involved on many occasions as you would require from a central midfield player.

What did Nixon say then?

Re: mark davies
Clearly we lost something post-Holden, because he combined tackling ability with creativity - something I've been hoping we remember when buying a defensive midfielder, rather than simply buying a wardrobe to park on the D.
Compare any player in a winning team (say, Holden) with one in a losing team (say, Mavies) and it'll come out in the winner's favour.
If you're arguing that Mavies was somehow useless despite making more passes than anyone else in white last term, I'm going to have to leave the discussion, because it's plainly madness.

Re: mark davies
I like Mavies. He is our best link-up player, good on the ball, good with the dribble. Our best passer and brings other players in.CrazyHorse wrote:LOLAdam Wilson wrote:I honestly reckon Davies is better than Jack Wilshere
But he needs a strong player around him & needs not to be played where Coyle did last year. Otherwise we may as well sell him off.
He would suit the front of a diamond ... just behind the striker(s).
But anyone who truly believes his better than Wilshire ..... I despair. Unless you mean right now. Right this second ... while Wilshire is out injured. Then, you may have a point ... just ... maybe.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.
