Rossendale? Late 60s early 70s? Think we won 4-1 or 4-0Riviman wrote:I seem to remember playing a non league side in the FA Cup at Bury, but I can't for the life of me remember who it was !

Re: FA Cup Draw
I watched the local news last night. Cameras were in the social club at Eastleigh's ground waiting for the fans reaction as the draw was made. Eastleigh came out of the hat, a massive roar from assembled kids, dads, old men with dogs etc. ...........Will play Bolton Wanderers..........The reaction was so underwhelming you could hear a bloke opening a packet of peanuts at the bar. Comments ranged from ' Well we'd have liked a much bigger club'................ To ' They're bottom of the championship and haven't won in ages, we're flying high at the moment, so this is very winnable'. Flying high ? You're in the fkn twobobvanhirepastyandchips league.
Mind you, he could have a point.......................

Hmmm, this is tempting.
Not sure why, nor how strong the urge yet, but it's definitely tempting.

Yes, think there was 7000 on the ground (it was moved from Rossendale). BBC North West News did a feature on it....in black-and-white on my telly! Did a young (and clean-shaven) Roy Greaves score?? As for the date I would go for Jan 71 but wouldn't bet a thrup'ny bit on it, although 1969 rings a bell. That means Rossendale would have made the Third Round.Harry Genshaw wrote:Rossendale? Love more info!!
EDIT - quick search reveals;
11/12/1971 FAC2 Bolton Wanderers 4-1 Rossendale United W but no crowd given.

Re: FA Cup Draw
12,100. Roy Greaves got three and John Byrom got the other. It was the same season that Gary Jones got a hat-trick v City in the League Cup. We went on to draw 1-1 at Stamford Bridge before getting dicked 6-0 at home in the replayAanvalluh wrote: EDIT - quick search reveals;

This thread's got me having a mooch. On the 4th Jan 1964 we played Bath City away (presumably at whatever the forerunner to Twerton Park was) and drew 1-1 before doing 'em 3-0 at our place the following Wednesday.
The following season in the third round we played Workington, who I assume were a league club at the time. Has anyone mentioned, talking of Cumbrians, that we played Barrow in Furness a few years ago too? Philliskirk scored the winner well late on.
Before we were drawn away to Rossendale we first had to see off Bangor City at home. I assume that that's the Welsh Bangor. We beat them 3-0, the goals coming from a John Ritson penalty, Peter Nicholson (so they must have been shit) and some bloke called Duffy.

If you do, and I can get there (depending on the day played), I'll buy you a pint in the wagon makers.

Re: FA Cup Draw
I'm up for this if I can get a ticket - their ground holds 5,000, so we'll get 1,000 max I reckon.
Eastleigh won at Macclesfield tonight to go 4th in the National League (aka the conference). We could be playing them in the league in a couple of seasons (if we last that long).
As it happens, I'll be watching them at Bromley on Boxing Day.

Bath City. They weren't a bad side. Malcolm Allison was manager and Tony Book a defender if my memory is still reasonably intact.Bruce Rioja wrote:12,100. Quelle surprise!! We ain't made it onto the telly. Now it's a case of waiting to find out if they switch the time and/or day of our game, or Southampton v Palace. Let me hazard a guess at which one of us will get fecked over .....

Both clubs who play in a TV match get £144k.Burnden Paddock wrote:Quelle surprise!! We ain't made it onto the telly. Now it's a case of waiting to find out if they switch the time and/or day of our game, or Southampton v Palace. Let me hazard a guess at which one of us will get fecked over .....
Some chosen clubs for Broadcast:
Man United
Chelsea
Liverpool.
Are they not rich enough?
It's all League 2 vs Prem or Prem vs Prem. Nowt for any of the non-league teams who've gotten this far.
