Re: Our formation
Hopefully we won’t get Toal at left centre half anymore. That’s good news, cheers.

Re: Our formation
Aye. To be fair they all looked very solid last night, against strong opposition.
Can't be many stronger back 3's (6's?) than Johnston (Forrester) / Santos / Toal (Jones) in the division (at least on paper.....)

Re: Our formation
Good news coz we probably need <51 in the conceded column, this season. Not that it's just on the three...

Sorry, forgot Forino in my "6" - presumably the first cover for Santos?dave the minion wrote: ↑Sat Jul 27, 2024 11:55 amAye. To be fair they all looked very solid last night, against strong opposition.

Re: Our formation
Kinda depends how you mean. Defensively, he's a big tall strong fella, so yeah - to an extent: does he have the lightning Santos pace that allows us to leave the skipper 1v1 and push men on?dave the minion wrote: ↑Sat Jul 27, 2024 12:15 pmSorry, forgot Forino in my "6" - presumably the first cover for Santos?dave the minion wrote: ↑Sat Jul 27, 2024 11:55 amAye. On the ball, he's more of a unknown quantity - what with having played for Wycombe, intricate passing has not been requested oe required (something he acknowledged himself in at least one interview). Not sure we'll necessarily be laying it back to him to ask him to hit a long but accurate diag to the far wing. That said, though, maybe the new system is intended to give more options to cycle the ball forwards. You might say it's been noticed that Oxford closed down the Sheehan-Santos-outball pattern of play, and the formational change has to include more ways to get the ball forward if it's to be anything more than Titanic deckchair dressage.

Re: Our formation
Struggling to see where Forino gets in to be honest. Given we’re up a centre half on last season anyway (Johnston) and Forrester barely got a look in…
Gethin Jones may struggle particularly if he’s having an operation which I think I read somewhere.

Re: Our formation
I wonder whether there'll be more rotation in a horses-for-courses fashion. Forino, Santos and Toal against aerial teams; more progressive Johnston/Jones/Iredale types in the outside slots for games we expect to dominate.officer_dibble wrote: ↑Sat Jul 27, 2024 12:36 pmStruggling to see where Forino gets in to be honest. Re: Our formation
Forino will push for those wide slots (he's played there a lot), but we've clearly signed him with a mind that we need a fast unit if Santos is injured.
The issue is obviously keeping Forino himself fit. Missed loads of football at Wycombe and already injured here.
You take the gamble that he and Santos are likely to be injured at different times, I suppose.

Re: Our formation
I feel like we're going to be even more exposed on the flanks with this formation.
