Re: Who's the Rioch to Evatt's Neal?
After what's gone on with Evatt this season I highly doubt that the board would bring in an unpopular new manager i.e. Evans, Rooney. They will look to bring someone in who the fans like or want and will get behind and ST's sell.dave the minion wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 5:43 pmAnd herein lies the problem. All that clamour for Evatt to go (correctly), and already we're panicking at the prospect of a couple of potential replacements..........
I hope we get someone progressive and proven in, but can we accept that we can't have it all ways. We can't be desperate for Evatt to leave, and then immediately start complaining about the potential replacement (even before he's been identified!!).
Us with a vacancy always had the potential for said vacancy to be filled by an Evans, a Rooney et al. All those that wanted Evatt out so vehemently now have to fully support the replacement, regardless of who it is

People having preferences on manager is natural. I don’t know who will work well so am pretty open minded, bar Rooney who I’m confident won’t be chosen.dave the minion wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 5:43 pmAnd herein lies the problem. I don’t think the whole ‘oh be careful what you wish for you might get ‘insert worst manager possible’’ as an idea works.
Evatt was and has been a drag on the club for a long while. We have a chance for some fresh ideas and a new approach now. Whoever it is will get backing or most fans same as Evatt did.

Haven’t heard it - haven’t listened to them this season as I’ve sort of withdrawn. But might give it a listen now.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 5:55 pmI don't know if you heard last night's Last Word podcast... he's a bit more honest on that and last night he (Iles) sounded very down indeed (and hinting strongly at the possibility of change).BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 5:41 pmInteresting to hear Iles say the club should have sacked him pre Christmas to give themselves a better chance. Sounds like he feels a sacking has been inevitable a while and they’ve delayed too long. Not often he’s critical.
Obviously he has to maintain a relationship with the manager but he's been getting increasingly honest in his words, both printed and audio.
It’s rare Iles will criticise the club but this was on radio 5. Jack Dearden has said he worries it was a ‘knee jerk reaction’ suggesting he was more for giving Evatt time and Iles has gone the other route suggesting it was not soon enough.
Opinions eh?

I'd like someone with EFL experience and a reasonably good record. Lowe my 1st choice
just ahead of Schumacher.

Yes he's doing worse than Evatt, overall. But certainly not defensively.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 4:34 pmSo he's doing worse than Evatt, who we just sacked?Worthy4England wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 4:16 pmBut if they won their game in hand, they'd be one point behind where we're at, with a better GD!.
Glad we agree.
Agreement is a wonderous thing.

Bond holders meeting cancelled on Friday. Or more accurately not cancelled just Sharon won’t be there as she’s busy trying to find a new manager.

Was going to say - they’ve spent a lot of money. Too much one might argue - given the outcomes.nicholaldo wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 7:15 pm
Nah, I don't think that's fair. They've not been shy in their financial backing.

It's being suggested that Evatt offered to resign earlier in the season and was asked to stay.
Would certainly put a very different spin on all this, were it true.

I got wind that, shall we say, discussions about various things between certain people had become 'difficult'.

I think Dearden might've meant it was a knee-jerk decision in the sense that the board had allowed Evatt to conduct transfer dealings this month, therefore seemingly backing him on a longer-term basis, then having to effect go back on that rather quickly as events unfolded.

It certainly wouldn’t help allay fears about the board’s judgement. However there are very different forms of offering a resignation.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 7:18 pmIt's being suggested that Evatt offered to resign earlier in the season and was asked to stay.

There is a ‘I want out please accept my resignation’ vs ‘I’m not doing very well if you want me to I will resign’ or a ‘unless you do x,y and z I will resign’.
If he offered a genuine written resignation and was refused - I’d find it hard to believe and also wonder what on earth was happening. I still suspect it was a slightly different scenario.

Keith Hill says we should go for Dyche. Hmmmm. Be absolutely brilliant but why would he drop to league one?

I think it's quite likely we'll go for a Mat Sadler/Lee Bell/Bryan Barry-Murphy kind of appointment.
