Not sure how you can tell. All i'm hearing is a bunch of names being read out like a school register.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Tue Mar 11, 2025 8:19 pmSounds like we should be winning, let alone drawing

Audio commentary is very different to TV - requires much more description, not least spatially, but at the very least whether it’s a corner or goal kick, for instance.
There have been (couchless) times I’ve pondered buying the audio feed but this is not a good advert for it.

crowd noise and the two mic men’s reactions (rather than descriptions, although mcg does a decent précis job)Mar wrote: ↑Tue Mar 11, 2025 8:22 pmNot sure how you can tell. It was needed - Charlton have just gone one up at Crawley. We need to kick on and get in front now. Don’t want this largely first-choice XI knackered for Saturdays ‘s six-pointer

Yeah, McGinlay's doing a sterling job.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Tue Mar 11, 2025 8:23 pmcrowd noise and the two mic men’s reactions (rather than descriptions, although mcg does a decent précis job)Mar wrote: ↑Tue Mar 11, 2025 8:22 pmNot sure how you can tell. It's not a bad stream, just needs to be more descriptive in terms of how things are playing out rather than just telling the names.

I have been very impressed with him. I’d say “the player we thought he could be” but I think most of us had him down as a quarterback - he’s showing a much more rounded game.

Nice of them to bring us a score update. Frustrating to learn that Sky don't even send their commentators out to games on nights like this, they just have them sat in a studio watching the same stream as us...

I feel like he’s living up to the goal scoring number 8 we hoped he would be. With plenty of strings to his bow.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Tue Mar 11, 2025 8:26 pmI have been very impressed with him. the sidekick’s job is to summarise, and McG does it well.
The (audio) commentator’s job is to paint pictures with words, and Derek doesn’t. To be fair he has a mixed remit and TV watchers don’t want “he’s just outside his area” - but radio listeners do.

I'm getting the impression they're not even attempting to fix the stream. Feels like its been a good twenty minutes.

In other unrelated news. I've just found out that a ginger nut doesn't survive a second dip in the brew.
