I'm for "stay", but there's a decided touch of "stay of execution" about it all. Like the song says "La Donna immobile" (The woman/man/fate is fickle)... .Que Sera Sera as ever..

He’s done an interview on radio Manchester. Was on at 6. Heard just a bit.

Interesting line in the piece on Santos this morning:
Evatt has confirmed, however, that the captaincy of the team has not yet been discussed between himself and the players.

Santos has worn the armband since October 2021, when Antoni Sarcevic was sold to Stockport County, but Gethin Jones, Eoin Toal and George Thomason were among those who wore it during his spells out of the team through injury last season.

Asked whether the captaincy was up for debate, Evatt added that a decision would be taken in due course.

“We haven’t had those conversations yet,” he said. “Rico is the captain of the club, but the conversation will be private, and I will always back him, he knows that.

“We will speak about it and see what the best way is to move forwards.”

Positive move if so - think player and club would benefit from a new captain. Hope we have a signing lined up.

The captaincy can be a weight to bare. Santos hasn't been a bad captain but he's not been a standout captain. He's been an OK captain as per Okocha.

We could do with a standout captain like a Bergsson esque type.

But regardless of Santos having the captaincy we could do with a few contenders. Even under Bergsson we had that. Not sure we've got it at the moment

Wonder whether Thomason could be in line to be our next Skipper. He led an awful lot of team talks last season, and always gives 100%.

Yeah and he missed 10 (?) games through suspension? Make him captain you can double that! I like tomo but he is still learning. Kevin Nolan he ain’t.

Boost Santos's confidence and give him the job again/ What exactly did he do wrong except get us to the play off final? There are many worse who'll be getting praised. We always look for faults/victims.. I'd love to see Kev Nolan back in some role. ae:) ae:)

the quote I feared to be honest 🚩
“Would I have done anything differently?” he said. “No. I genuinely don’t think I could have.

“Our preparation was exactly what the game looked like, we had worked on it all week, we knew what the threats were, what was going to happen, where the danger was, that they were going to press, but on the day we didn’t execute.
If you prepared for how Oxford would play you lack leaders on the pitch to execute the game plan Ian.

Or you didn’t plan for how they would play. Arrogantly thought we would beat them playing like we did in the home game.

I know I’ll be called negative but I don’t see this summer bringing the changes we need. We’re not admitting what the problem is.

Don't think you're being negative Dibs. We can only hope he's privately acknowledging it and its his ego from admitting it publicly.

That said, a decision has been made on how we're going about next season. We have to get behind it and give it a chance to work. They'll know there won't be any patience this time. They have to hit the ground running and not stop. The inevitable wobbles have to short and hopefully come the end of the season he can give it the big I told you so.

Oh - that's more worrying not less. We prepared for exactly what the game looked like.

I do find it a bit worrying when the team boss can't say "we got it wrong on the day." Sure I've done a few over the years and sometimes you just need a bit of self reflection and "If I had my time again, I'd have done X instead." It's not that difficult.

We got everything right we just didn’t execute is the biggest of all giveaways. That he doesn’t know what he needs to do to stop those games from happening.

If you look at the best managers they minimise the gap between result and execution. Evatt drives it as wide as he can.

In the full article he also trots out the ‘wasn’t meant to be’ type line. It appears he has learnt nowt. Think he’ll be gone by Xmas if that’s the case.

Evatt at a loss as to why we played so badly when everything went right in the preparation. I think then that someone put some bad stuff in the players igloo. Come on Evatt... the planned system never worked. Simple.

Especially at this distance, when he's got the backing of the board. Straight after the game? Fine. Now? You have to see that wasn't right.
