Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
Am I right in thinking that Petrov was on 30/35k a week in the Championship? So when we were in the Premiership before his wages were reduced (i hope to God he had a relegation wage cut!) he must've been 40k/50k a week?

This is true, but any manager with half a brain will know his wage budget and have an idea how much of it he wants to spend on each player. And before pen reaches paper - in that yawning six-month gap, judging by Holden - the club's negotiators should report back to the boss.boltonboris wrote:I don't think the manager sits at the negotiating table (I wonder if they have special table that they use solely for negotiations) in fairness to Coyle. I see Simon Church has been released, worth a punt surely?
I know he hasn't played in the Prem this season, but iv'e always been impressed with him ,when iv'e seen him play (admittedly not a lot)
A good hard working forward (i know i know) who can play on either wing IIRC.

Yeah of course the manager gets a say. It's his wage budget to manage. So he will know what a player wants, what the club have offered and ultimately it's up to him to say yes or no based on the % that deal will take of his budget.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:This is true, but any manager with half a brain will know his wage budget and have an idea how much of it he wants to spend on each player. Aye, but if he's within his budget, then it matters not one jot to him what the player earns, is what I'm getting at..

Who's going to be doing it now then? Garty? A tea lady? Nicky Hunt?chester white wrote:Dougie's ruthless streak continues... Stadium Announcer Colin McGreavy given a free transfer!
Businesswoman of the year.
Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
Well it does, in that it will limit the amount of wages he can offer to other targets, and as a result the calibre of player he can attract with the remaining wage budget.boltonboris wrote:Aye, but if he's within his budget, then it matters not one jot to him what the player earns, is what I'm getting at..

Ermm it matters greatly to me as a manager how much of my budget each resource be it human or otherwise takes up. And ultimately it is my responsibility.boltonboris wrote:Aye, but if he's within his budget, then it matters not one jot to him what the player earns, is what I'm getting at..

Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
Boris has a point - some (football) managers have nowt to do with budgeting. But they're fools to themselves, because as Beefheart pointed out, resources are finite. If Coyle told Gartside he wanted Lonergan as back-up goalie but Leeds held out for £10m and the player wanted £100kpw, it would be idiocy for the manager to refrain from jot-giving.BWFC_Insane wrote:Ermm it matters greatly to me as a manager how much of my budget each resource be it human or otherwise takes up. There HAS to be a story to that.
Can't imagine Dougie has much to do with that sort of decision.
(He was very good pre-match v Blackpool, btw. In so much as you CAN be very good in cheer leading.)
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
It quite obviously is. The budget that you are allocated by your director will be for more than just recruitment and salaries, I imagine and based on what profits your branch / department makes..BWFC_Insane wrote:Ermm it matters greatly to me as a manager how much of my budget each resource be it human or otherwise takes up. That isn't a football managers remit. As there's people at the club who determine incomes from off-field activities. Coyle manages a team of players to win as many points as possible and if he's within his budget (which he clearly was), then he doesn't have to worry about the balance sheets the way you would.
99% of managers are ex-players. 99% of footballers couldn't count the number of fingers on the end of their hands. Can you imagine Redknapp (or Coyle) controlling a budget for instance?

Coyle? Interesting! I think they're probably a good match for each other at the moment.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:By the by, I hear he had his second interview at Wolves yesterday...
