Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
Not as much as it makes to fans, although some are more into it than others - take for example Chris Wilder's famous Sheffield United tattoo. End of the day it's a job and a short career, so he should be looking at how to develop.
I'd hope he'd come here because he fancies his chances of being a first-team regular perhaps quicker than he would at a Champo side, but that depends how confident the lad is. As a passer he might fancy Evattball, but we're not the only team to pass it. We'll see.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
His stats caught my eye the other month and he seems a very Evatt/FV signing - a passer whose valuation could grow significantly. I'm hopeful but if he goes elsewhere, that's his choice – I won't be tearful. Still three weeks of window left.
Brommers likes him...
Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
Aye sure, if it's come to us as a first ranger teamer or go to City as a first teamer I'm not even sure with the benefit of it being hypothetical I can say I'd choose us, but say it's a close-ish one. Preston a league up, you'd be "first reserve" say, vs regular starter for us, say slightly more money there but not much. It'll be different for different players of course but I wonder.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 12:27 pmNot as much as it makes to fans, although some are more into it than others - take for example Chris Wilder's famous Sheffield United tattoo. Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
Yeah, there's lots of different calculations and guesswork. He could look at our position just above the dots and wonder if we're much of a step up from Rochdale, while PNE are an established second-tier club and now under a promising young manager. On the flip side, he might think there's plenty of headroom for Bolton to rise again, while you could argue that PNE are perhaps unlikely to grow from their current state – and they've now lost their sugar daddy.Prufrock wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 12:32 pmAye sure, if it's come to us as a first ranger teamer or go to City as a first teamer I'm not even sure with the benefit of it being hypothetical I can say I'd choose us, but say it's a close-ish one. All that is supposition, of course, and not all players will even bother thinking about it. He might be thinking "impress at PNE for two seasons, then move to Burnley, then Everton" or something – and again in a short career any player has the right to do whatever they think is best.

Apart from sign for United. They should never sign for United.

Surely a professional sportsperson is going to back themselves at the highest level they can? If I was offered Preston or Bolton today, I wouldn't be agonizing very long...

Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
It's a fair point, but there is a counter-argument. Judging by that Bury Times piece, as a kid he was released by Man City and then again by us. (Either that, or he chose to leave those academies.) That kind of thing might make you want to progress more carefully rather than risk being spat out again. Or, perhaps, more determined to make it stick this time. We can't know, of course.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 1:10 pmSurely a professional sportsperson is going to back themselves at the highest level they can? Well quite, there's all sorts of shades that he might do, I was just saying what I'd do...Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 1:14 pmIt's a fair point, but there is a counter-argument. Not sure on that. Forget the specifics of clubs a chance to play more often a level up or sit in the ressies or dev squad two levels up?Worthy4England wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 1:10 pmSurely a professional sportsperson is going to back themselves at the highest level they can? Young keeper comes back. Let's see if he's still here at the end of the month, or if he's been sent to a higher tier (Colls are tier 7).

A real shame he wasn't around in the first half of the season to play in the PJT.
I imagine he'll be sent out on loan again to the National League North.

Seems like he has bags of potential. Lets hope we don't do a Ramsdale with him.brommers95 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 4:38 pmA real shame he wasn't around in the first half of the season to play in the PJT.

More time on loan will do him no harm.brommers95 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 4:38 pmA real shame he wasn't around in the first half of the season to play in the PJT.

Ultimately, on Morley, we'd not have bid if we hadn't received encouragement.
That could be to get more money out of another club, but usually it's genuine interest from the player. If we've made a bid we probably have a chance of landing him.

Hutchinson appears to have jumped ahead of Matt Alexander as our most promising young goalkeeper.

Rumour is that its done & will be announced tomorrow fee around £100k (perhaps with incentives etc.), which if true is a good piece of business.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 5:23 pmUltimately, on Morley, we'd not have bid if we hadn't received encouragement.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
Honestly, I'd love it. He's another "not perfect" signing. I'm sure plenty of people will pick it apart on what he can't do; but he's a local lad and what he can do is impressive. With the right coaching and (really importantly) time, he can be a proper player. I know a lot of people don't care, but I want to see young, Lancashire lads in a Bolton side. Ideally our own products, but this'll do. They have to be up to scratch, obviously, which I think Morley would be.Bertie Wooster wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 6:27 pmRumour is that its done & will be announced tomorrow fee around £100k (perhaps with incentives etc.), which if true is a good piece of business.

I was with you there until the 'right coaching' comment, which I'm not sure he'll get with our current team of coaches.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 6:34 pmHonestly, I'd love it. I know. Like I said we few times in this thread, I'm not sure I agree but I'm not inclined to argue that point as it's a "time will tell" thing. I've never watched Evatt's sessions, so I can't give an informed opinion.Bertie Wooster wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 6:38 pmI was with you there until the 'right coaching' comment, which I'm not sure he'll get with our current team of coaches.
All we can do is recruit talent and hand it over to the coaching team. If that last part falls down then eventually changes happen there instead.
First things first. Talented players.
