Re: The ianevattable sacking
Evatt's latest interview with Iles....dear me, he can't & won't change the way we play (even though its clear to all that its not working !) because this is the way he's played for 4 - 4 1/2 years and its been successful apart from 22 games this year - the players need to believe in his system, we just have to tweak it and play it better etc. sounds exactly like his pre season Plan A 2.0

IMO that's going too far, it was a very stupid & daft comment to make and I bet the guy seriously regrets it now - but I didn't read it as a 'proper threat to kill' etc. Perhaps a ticking off yes, but criminal proceedings absolutely not.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Sat Jan 04, 2025 1:55 pmhttps://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/news/24 ... condemned/Bertie Wooster wrote: ↑Sat Jan 04, 2025 11:36 amYes it was a very silly comment to make, but I suspect that it was tongue in cheek.

Sticks and stones can break bones, only takes one lunatic to act on it. Zero accountability on social media. Saying what you like and saying I only meant it as a joke. We'll find out if it's a valid defence.

Re: The ianevattable sacking
Club is absolutely right to be taking action. Some of the personal stuff that I've seen both on Tw-X and in other places is beyond the pale. These men are here to do their best for our club. We might disagree on how that's supposed to be done, or on whether their best is good enough, and that's fine. But making personal comments, making vitriolic attacks on the character or personal choices of our own manager and players, going after their family and kids, is simply not acceptable.

Given all the publicity around the keyboard warriors going to jail after the rioting earlier this year, you'd be a special kind of idiot to think you'd get away with that sort of comment consequence free.

Police now involved, as they were always going to be.
Luke's mates are apparently horrified that the rozzers would take an interest in a potential incident of soliciting to murder against a public figure, in a sport with a history of violence and during a time when they are cracking down on violent rhetoric online.
Thick as mince.

They might be attempting to crack down on it but one glance at X suggests it’s worse than ever. Musk’s plan I guess. The platform should be banned and the club should absolutely not be using it.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Sun Jan 05, 2025 1:58 pmPolice now involved, as they were always going to be.

The far right realised a while ago that "the common" is now online and they'd do well if they could dominate that sphere.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sun Jan 05, 2025 3:49 pmThey might be attempting to crack down on it but one glance at X suggests it’s worse than ever. Musk's open support of neo-nazism has come essentially without consequences for him, so it's now officially mainstream.
We're in some shite.

Re: The ianevattable sacking
For me I would give him a ban - couple of years. There’s a way back then. Ban for life and potential court and conviction and that could harness bitterness and have a worse outcome in the end. Hopefully he realises he’s a feck* and sorts himself out.
Re: The ianevattable sacking
It's fecking dense and don't have any particular sympathy. But it's obviously a joke. Not sure it should be a police matter beyond checking it was a joke. Modern world etc.

Very mixed feelings on it. Can see this view. I suspect you could find thousands of similar posts if you trawl. Probably hundreds of thousands. But I guess the issue is you don’t know the intent without context. Very possible someone who knows nowt about bwfc might not see that as a joke if they stumbled on it.

Re: The ianevattable sacking
Given the febrile atmosphere at the moment it was at least dangerous.
I don't think the public order offence needs the same mens rea element as soliciting to murder (not a lawyer), so he may still be charged under Section 4 based on possible interpretation by the reader. If he is he can't have many complaints.
My issue isn't really whether he should be banged up or not, it's the reaction that the police shouldn't even be looking at it. They obviously have to.
The club's duty of care to staff welfare means they have to report it to the police and the police have a duty to public welfare, so you can't say they shouldn't be involved.
As soon as he publishes that it's inevitable that the police speak to him.
You'd imagine he's going to be banned and given how thick some of these guys seem to be I could see the reaction to that getting some more banned too.

Re: The ianevattable sacking
Given where we are this was inevitable.
My opinion though is it shouldn't be a crime, and police involvement should be limited to investigating whether it was a real threat.

Rob Edwards is potted. He won't be on the market for long. Incredible job with Luton and whilst they've been poor this season, they're probably still above where they should be in the grand scheme of things

Re: The ianevattable sacking
While it would be darkly ironic if Ian's demise were hastened by the availability of his mate, I don't think we're anywhere near getting Edwards. I can see the point of targeting managers with promotions from this division, but surely as someone who got promoted from the one above he'll be expecting plenty of second-tier offers.boltonboris wrote: ↑Thu Jan 09, 2025 2:25 pmRob Edwards is potted. Absolutely, but treating this as part of the giant merry-go-round. Luton will most likely go for a League One manager if they're not looking at the likes of "Bucky", "lowey" & "Schuey"Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Thu Jan 09, 2025 3:09 pmWhile it would be darkly ironic if Ian's demise were hastened by the availability of his mate, I don't think we're anywhere near getting Edwards. Re: The ianevattable sacking
Remember when we got humiliated at Stockport and it was definitely definitely his last chance? Well since then we've gone:
W BLACKPOOL
D Cambridge
W MANSFIELD
L WIGAN
D Wycombe
L BARNSLEY
W LINCOLN
L Mansfield
W Exeter
L Rotherham
D CAMBRIDGE
L CHARLTON
Played 12, W4 D3 L5.
That's 15pts from 12 games (a quarter of a season), which is 1.25 PPG. Multiply that by 46 and you get 57.5pts, which last season would have been enough to finish 15th.
So even since that Stockport game – when things couldn't possibly get worse and Lessons Had To Be Learnt – we've been beaten more than we've won, and we've gathered points at the sort of rate that over most seasons might see you celebrate safety from relegation in April.
