Oh I don't expect him to resign. I'm just wondering when the board will do the necessary sums, and whether it will be early enough to save this season.

Depends what you mean by save the season. Any new manager is going to walk into a large, talented squad. He'd have nearly two weeks to get a couple more in. It's not long, but it's enough time to get some stuff done.

Managers being egotistical, they'd all fancy themselves to do the Wembley double.

A few will be dreaming of 30 months of Big Sam and a double promotion tonight. They may wake up to Evatt's post match and a difficult trip to Huddersfield on Saturday looming ahead.

Sad news but the right decision. Thanks for some great memories Ian. The less said about this season the better.

About time - the trigger should have been pulled much earlier, and he can't say that he wasn't given a chance,

The board need to make the new manager appointment quickly so that the new manager still has time in this transfer window. The downside is that some of the decent managers who where available a month ago are now fixed up.

Who does everyone think will be the new manager ?

I think that the favourites may be Schumacher or Lowe, Evatt's mate Edwards is available (how ironic would that be) - any others out there who are available ?

Schumacher for me if he's willing.

Its a sad end with Evatt. The last 12 months will wipe out the good things he's done/achieved. He's got a lot to learn if he's to be successful in future. Keeping his gob shut should be an easy quick win for him!

In other thread I’ve mentioned, maybe fancifully, Gary O Neil and Sean Dyche.

I don’t think it’s impossible that Sharon looks for a man till the end of the season before then properly assessing in the summer. I get maybe that wouldn’t be her natural position but there will no doubt be names not available now who would be come summer.

Problem with Edward’s is he did it at Luton with very specific circumstances and very specific team - most of which he hadn’t had to assemble. He had a physical and mobile team. Once he had to start putting teams together on promotion he looked more like he struggled. Still I’d back him were he the choice.

I’d back anyone bar Coyle and Rooney.

I'm not sure that Dyche or O'Neil would drop down to League 1 & I also suspect that we couldn't afford their wages.

Who's knows at least its given everyone a spring in their step and something to speculate on. Evatt needs some time out to relax, reflect and sort himself out mentally, get his head sorted and back in a good place.

About time!

Interview Question 1: how many defenders is the right number of defenders? (100 marks)

Q2. Do you think they need to know how to defend?

Refusing to believe it until I see a picture of a corner flag tweeted by the official club account…

I saw Leam Richardson around the ground yesterday around 6.30 ish. Could just be happily watching a local game. Could've been checking out Charlton if his agent has called him. Could have been checking us out for the same reason..

Was heavily linked with the Wycombe job, but they're not playing Bolton or Charlton for a while yet

Wonder if they’ll turf Atherton and keep Crainey as caretaker (or “interim”)
