Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
Well if they want to pay £15m, loan him back to us for a couple of years then that too would be acceptable

If Sturridge is part of the deal (in any capacity) then a big yes from me. Obviously if its a loan, then a larger slice of cash. But I'd take £5m plus him, covers the cost of Cahill's original fee, he wants away, everyones a winner.
Not going to happen though.

Don't be too sure. They know we want Sturridge and the new boss will be well aware of the possibilities.Lord Kangana wrote:If Sturridge is part of the deal (in any capacity) then a big yes from me. Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
If Coyle and VB are pals, and the subject has come up, i'll be Coyle has mentioned that as a possibility.
The main issue i see is that Sturridge will not want to leave Chelsea permanently for us, but i think he'd welcome another seaosn on loan.

Chelsea have a lot of centre backs. Could see them getting a cheaper, youngish one as cover but can't see them paying out for Cahill. Wouldn't surprise me if Coyle isn't calling in a favour from his mate at Chelsea to get the story out about them being after Cahill, force Arsene's hand a bit.......

maybe not - but it'd be a whole higher order of offer than Arsenal's makeweights if Studger were on the table...
and - no harm in letting the stalling Wenger think there is some competition..
I suspect that most arsenal fans are not exactly creaming their pants at the prospect of Cahill... BUT - if it was aparent that Wenger had dithered and stalled - and Chelsea took him from under his beak - then it would be used as a rod to beat him with....

Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
Rumours about Chelsea's transfer policy may be largely guesswork while hacks do their doorstepping on the new regime, but they do need fresh blood at centre-back. Ivanovic is a good player but arguably too useful for them at right-back, where they've been unconvincing for years.
Cahill would be a better partner for Terry, Dann a better replacement – and Dann is cheaper, although not as good (hence no England caps, although obviously we get preferential treatment there, anyone who plays for Bolton automatically gets capped).
Sturridge swap possibilities are obvious but shouldn't get people too excited. By no means certain he'd automatically want to come back here, and swaps only muddle the valuation. Besides, we need some cash for Cahill and Sturridge has been quoted at £20m - wouldn't a straight swap leave us too poor to rebuild?

Aye but what about Alex and David Luiz who they just bought? And they've got a few young ones coming through as well.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Rumours about Chelsea's transfer policy may be largely guesswork while hacks do their doorstepping on the new regime, but they do need fresh blood at centre-back. Cahill for Sturridge as a straight swap might be interesting if not a bit risky. But theoretically if Sturridge progressed we could end up selling him for well a lot more than the 15M or so we might get for Cahill. But just for Puskas, never going to happen!

hmmm... indeed - it would leave us with a shit-hot striker - and then padding out the rest with Bosmans and loans...

The theory falls apart there. Clearly its a conspiracy.

Surely we should be setting our sights a bit higher than that useless chancer?
Have Coyle and Gartside got no ambition?

Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
Like the kids upon whom Ancelotti was told to rely, Alex hasn't really impressed - occasionally eye-catching but inconsistent, which isn't what you want in a centre-back (insert Cahill joke here). Luiz has been better but is already being linked with Barcelona and Real Madrid.BWFC_Insane wrote:Aye but what about Alex and David Luiz who they just bought? Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
How are Chelsea stacked for English players these days. Might be a factor with the new regulations especially as Lamp's days seem to be coming to an end, and Cole has been linked elsewhere I think.

Exactly
so unless they 'nominate' them as non-U21s, then they're stuck trying to find over-21s to form part of the nominated 25....
