If one of the match fit ones had got injured in that game I'd agree with you. I think you can say it was a mistake to play them. But JOT needed to play. Until he played he wasn't going to be ready to start. And the sooner he got those minutes (assuming we didn't overload him) the better. He was fit to play, and playing that game gets you closer to starting games unless you get injured. But the only way not to get injured is not to play. In which case you'll never be fit.
Put otherwise, how would you have got him up to speed?

The intensity is the point. And you know it. Or you'd argue against all pre-season friendlies and instead just gave training sessions.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2024 10:47 amI said before the game on this forum that I'd completely back Evatt to play the kids, take the £5000 fine. So no. I was before the game saying that was the right thing to do.boltonboris wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2024 10:30 amIf he played this weekend and got injured due to not being up to speed or whatever, you'd have panned him for not giving him the minutes against Barrow.
I think at this stage, you've just got tunnel vision with Evatt and every decision he makes and every word he says, to you, is the wrong thing.
And yes a player can get injured in any game. We sign players who are injury prone. So it will happen. But my annoyance is that he was injured in a completely meaningless cup game that was not exactly unpredictable to suggest it brings risks.
Have a training match on a good pitch behind closed doors with a bit less intensity than a bunch of Barrow reserves wanting to barrel into you. Fine. Player might get injured but that is a different story.

In fairness that isn't true. It makes me miserable but there we go.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2024 10:42 amTo be fair to BWFCi, he has pretty much always been against 'risking' players in minor cups.
To be less pleasant, he often seems to prefer being right to being happy. Each to their own.
One of the highlights this season was the prospect of Tutu ripping down the line - to me he seemed like the only real potential gamechanger we had managed to sign. And now we're going to be stuck with no outlet and more dreariness from Cogley who has the attacking instincts of a frightened hamster.
I quite like Cogs - he's a good right back and occasional wing back imho. But I just don't enjoy watching us with no width or pace - so feeling very frustrated.

But I don't think a cup game in the FLT or whatever it is called now - away at Barrow is a game where you get the right intensity. You are on a rubbish pitch up against a bunch of their seconds who are naturally going to at times go for those sort of challenges. Especially during an international break where you have the chance to do work and get players up to speed with some behind closed doors stuff. I get its 'not the same as playing' but Barrow away is nothing like the intensity we see in a normal league game. And I just never see the point in taking the risk, especially again, with what is a very brittle squad. We have a lot of injuries. If we were a robust and fit lot, then I'd be less inclined to mind. But we know every couple of weeks someone will be injured - and that game IMHO was asking for it.Prufrock wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2024 10:49 amThe intensity is the point. And you know it. Sure.
He looks like a very talented player. If he's a sicknote then he'll turn out to be a bad signing.
I'd have tried to sign Fevrier, but then that's been the case for a while.
Evatt will live and die by his signings. Hopefully they got most of them right.

JDC pulled out of a tackle to prevent injury and Insane wasn't happy. It's pointless trying to argue.Prufrock wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2024 10:48 amIn a tackle.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2024 10:08 amHe jarred his knee in the pitch - playing a game that was completely unnecessary. ^^ Wasn't that in a League game? One at home that would have been useful to win? Different situations DJB, if so.

Remember Gethin Jones? Absent for all this abhorrent season? Well, I dunno whether he's back this weekend, but in the longer-term Graham Arnold, the manager who called Gethin up for Australia, has resigned.
Dunno who the new manager will be, but it's quite possible he will look past the nearly-29-year-old, wrong-side-of-the-world, third-tier-relegation-zone Jonesy. That would be sad in some ways for Gethin, but might help his domestic career.

Saw Declan John's on trial at a league two club. Would anyone be keen on a return?

What on earth has happened to Gethin Jones?
Also - “We could have Klaidi [Lolos] back next week" and CMG "doing great" but the aim for CMG will be a slower reintroduction as was intended for Johnston.WANDERERS expect Chris Forino to be out of action for the foreseeable future with a “significant” hamstring tear, Ian Evatt has confirmed.
The centre-back will undergo scans today on an injury picked up in the second half against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup but is not expected to return to action until after the upcoming international break.
That leaves Bolton short on fit centre-halves, with Ricardo Santos, Eoin Toal and George Johnston joined by academy graduate Sam Inwood for the squad being considered for Saturday’s game against Crawley.
"He is having a scan but we're expecting a pretty significant injury but we can't give any more detail than that." updated the Bolton boss.

Gethin Jones had surgery earlier this month for an ongoing problem

I’m not really sure what the argument is for not registering Matheson now.

Do Evatt & Markham just ignore the injury records of some players and just sign them anyway just hoping they get lucky. Surely the board must ask questions in regards to what due diligence they do before signing players, its just wasting money (wages) and valuable squad places.

We have a management team that clearly are very stubburn in the way they do things. Never learn. Folks here said Tutu, Forino and Matete were historically injury prone and recomended we not sign. Two down after 6 weeks.Bertie Wooster wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2024 1:07 pmDo Evatt & Markham just ignore the injury records of some players and just sign them anyway just hoping they get lucky.
