I'm kind of like that, more like "Hmm, why?"bobo the clown wrote:Why isn't there a poll option which says "meh" ?
It seems like a strange appointment all round. Why would he leave a club where he's doing well, he has the support of the fans and spent a large part of his playing career, to move him and his family north to a club he has no association with at all? And from our side, why would we go for someone that had less of a CV than Coyle did when he joined us?
I don't know enough about him to be happy/disappointed with the appointment. Obviously his characteristics are similar to Coyle, I'm just hoping his tactics and player selections aren't.

heres another from the holmsdale siteSponge wrote:From the Palace forum, an eloquent summation of their feelings:"Dunno about betrayal, but Freedman has effectively done the supporters of this club up the arse, without having the common decency to lean forward and offer us a reach-around."

to be fair the bolton fan was being very nice to us and didnt deserve this beauty...lol

Interestingly, right up to about 3.05pm of the day of the Stoke Sem-Final, while Coyle was very much the flavour of the month & all sorts of clubs were being linked, if he'd walked we'd have been mighty pissed about it.
We all know that if he had then we'd have replaced him from a srong position, done wayyyyyy better than we have since and he'd probably have had another of his honeymoon periods before fckg it all up.
I so wish he'd have joined Liverpool right back then.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Bollocks. Coyle was fired because the club expected promotion this season, not in two years time. That's the brief for Freedman too. He knew the score when he took the job.BWFC_Insane wrote:Barring any massive disasters or abysmal start with players protesting Sammy Lee style, then he's got two years as I said, before we can start really assessing him.thebish wrote:are you saying you won't be issuing any judgements about Freedman for TWO WHOLE YEARS????BWFC_Insane wrote:

if that's the case - then - Doogie IN!!!
Not his squad or backroom setup (yet) and he can only do so much initially.
I hope and expect he can get an upturn in results this season, but like I say I want to see how he wants to build it and his vision over a longer period.
Think we all made the mistake of thinking Coyle was great a year into his job here........

But the difference is that Freedman hasn't spent any of Eddies money to get us here, hasn't got his players or backroom in yet.
We are a way into the season and the point at which Freedman takes over we are 18th.
Eddie Davies has made his choice and I can only think he sees Freedman as a longer term investment rather than a short term gain.
End of the day there is still a chance to turn it round, but I don't think there was anyone available who could guarantee us promotion from the point we'd been left in.
When freedman has signed the majority of the squad either through renewals or new signings, then I think it's fair to judge how we look and where we are.

Re: Are you happy with the new appointment?
Quite easy really. If Freedman is able to get Coyle's team to perform close to its' potential then he earns the right to some patience to improve the team and take it further. Not getting promotion this season is not failure given where we are now. Not improving by any great degree will be.

Yeah, I think this.Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:Quite easy really. When Allardyce came in we were in a very similar position to this at a similar time of year.
He got us into the play offs from the bottom 6 of the championship where we lost to Ipswich.
We then lost the majority of that side and he rebuilt with freebies and cheap players, and took us up via the play offs the year after.
We need an improvement this season. Even if we hit promotion form from now till the end, no guarantee that would be enough, given we have ground to make up aswell.
Clearly want to see an improvement. But I won't fully assess till Freedman has his own team and players at the club.

Re: Are you happy with the new appointment?
I'll assess Freedman pretty quickly as there is no point letting him build a new team unless he proves himself competent. By a new team I mean more than the January window. I think we'll be inconsistent for a good chunk of this season and it will be frustrating; there is much to be done to fix the current mess and it is going to take time.
Re: Are you happy with the new appointment?
I doubt it. He wants promotion this season. If he was willing to wait, he'd have given Coyle the rest of this season, or at least until the next transfer window.BWFC_Insane wrote:Eddie Davies has made his choice and I can only think he sees Freedman as a longer term investment rather than a short term gain.
Re: Are you happy with the new appointment?
You must be fecking joking. There's still thirty three games remaining. If we don't at least make the play-offs, then we've failed big time.Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:Not getting promotion this season is not failure given where we are now.

Well whatever the motive lets just be grateful Coyle wasnt given any more time at the helm of his sinking ship. He could of completed the project and turned us into league one promotion candidates.

Re: Are you happy with the new appointment?
I think that's stretching an assumption a long way. Why would he necessarily give Coyle longer? He may have seen enough.BL3 wrote:I doubt it. He wants promotion this season. The results we were getting were by Coyles own admission not good enough for the players he claimed we had. Perhaps Davies was fed up with the fact he'd spent his money on non-performing or selected players.
Most likely from the inside he just thought Coyle was a busted flush.
Several of our key players clearly had issue with Coyle. It had all gone a bit 'Sammy Lee', didn't take much to see that!
Re: Are you happy with the new appointment?
It's not an assumption. He's made it clear that he wants and expects promotion this season. Gartside wanted Coyle to bring in Sammy Lee. Eddie pulled the plug. He didn't do with three quarters of the season remaining so that we could consolidate in the Championship.BWFC_Insane wrote:I think that's stretching an assumption a long way. Since Eddie never speaks publically about BWFC it's hard to tell.
If we don't go up, do you honestly expect Freedman to be sacked?

Am I supposed to find logic in that statement? Play-offs do not equal promotion...unless of course you win said play-offs.BL3 wrote:You must be fecking joking. There is much to fix and there will be a lot less than 33 games less by the time most of it is fixed. My opinion of course, but if anyone thinks Freedman is going to wave a magic wand then either he is the best manager in the country, or you are deluded.

He was after a year. You can only judge on the evidence as presented.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

I'm all for getting behind him. Let's hope he can sort out the defence as we've still leaked a huge amount of goals even since Owen's gone
Pfffft.

I agree we need to stop giving so many goals away. I think the main problem is we have too many players who don't contribute defensively.TKIZ! wrote:I'm all for getting behind him. Let's hope he can sort out the defence as we've still leaked a huge amount of goals even since Owen's gone
I hope he takes us back to basics. One or two 'flair players' only and the rest prepared for a scrap.
We are carrying too many softies in the team for me. Two out of Petrov, Mark Davies, LCY, Eagles only.
One striker.
Beef up the midfield with some physical scrappers.
Re: Are you happy with the new appointment?
Totally agree with you there BWFCi. Spearing, I feel sorry for, he plays his heart out and seems a class ahead but the midfield (Mavies/Pratley or Andrews) are shockingBWFC_Insane wrote:I agree we need to stop giving so many goals away.
