Re: Deadline Day
It was 3 days before the season. So I think there probably was a need. Someone was going to be captain at Burnley anyhow.thebish wrote:not sure why one needed to be named at that point - are you?BWFC_Insane wrote:I do. We sold Nolan when he was captain.Lost Leopard Spot wrote:
I don't think the captain stuff is overblown. I think that maybe Knight does a superb impression of fitness in training and that Dougie interprets that in a different manner than others would, and that he then excuses what Knight does on the pitch because Knight is pushing all his buttons, and therefore wouldn't in a million years think of adding Knight to the list of players he'd like to replace.
Kevin Davies was "Freedman's captain" last year.
The captain is a relatively unimportant role. Knight was picked as a senior player. Frankly at the point he was named it was hard to see who else could be given it, short of one of Tierney or Baptiste. Which might have been seen as odd.
Bish: Perhaps he was hoping that Knight being captain would improve his performances? Or perhaps he thought Knight would continue as he ended last season with some "none disastrous" at the very least performances.
I'm not saying that he's been trying to get rid of Knight all summer but possibly Blackburn changed his view on him. I mean after the game he talked about needing to move some players on after that performance. Knight would be one obvious one, Mears the other!

i don't think you need to name a permanent captain when you haven't finished your transfer dealings, do you? especially if it's not a big deal...BWFC_Insane wrote:It was 3 days before the season. Re: Deadline Day
Never mind next season, will he be playing next week?
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Re: Deadline Day
probably , he's the only one who can stay fit.
Re: Deadline Day
The one to go will be Mr Wheater.
No one wants Knight so he's staying.
A right/left back will be brought in and Baptiste will be partnering Knight.
My prediction for today.

My prediction os no one will go and it's just a bit of managerial desperation.DJBlu wrote:The one to go will be Mr Wheater.

dangerous tactic to rant and rave about players leaving on monday because their attitude can't be tolerated at the club - and then have nothing happen...

Dangerous perhaps. But he did not actually name anyone.thebish wrote:dangerous tactic to rant and rave about players leaving on monday because their attitude can't be tolerated at the club - and then have nothing happen...
Allardyce put half a side on the transfer list, including Hierro!
Personally speaking I was listening on the way back from the game and appreciated the obvious anger and disappointment he was displaying. I think if he'd said "well it was a bad performance but we'll work harder" I'd have felt even worse. At least he showed that he understands the fans were let down on the day.

Re: Deadline Day
Wishful thinking I'd call it. No way Knight's going anywhere IMO. He'll start the Leeds game to boos and a poisonous atmosphere and my process of giving up hope in Dougie will begin despite my efforts to fight it.TANGODANCER wrote:My prediction os no one will go and it's just a bit of managerial desperation.DJBlu wrote:The one to go will be Mr Wheater.
