Maybe the rebels just think he's full of shit and have made their views known? Who knows? Not me.

maybe so... still doesn't sound like a cult though! most cults don't allow dissent - it's one of the things that leads to them to being described as cults!

Maybe we would be able to brainwash them into playing decent football if we were a cult. Unless it was a misprint as I have heard a lot of people calling DF similar to a cult!

He does say some odd things but people pit extremely weird interpretations onto things which really aren't controversial. The word 'believe' in that sense is perfectly standard and makes perfect sense.

Also I'm sure he talked about his family's 'security' rather than off quoted 'safety', a word which, given the context of us supposedly paying him a shit load more than he was on, makes sense.

indeed - hence the idea of a "what dougie actually said - with real quotes and references" thread...

nah. I had my tongue in my cheek when I made the cult comment and as I've said before its best to ignore most of what the guy says, but belief has connotations of holding something to be true when there is no proof. If he'd used the word trust, which is used far more regularly in football that would have implied relying on something known to work, be that each other, the tactics or whatever.

His words are not really worth the forensic scrutiny - I just think they give us an small insight into his pychological state and the situation he finds himelf in - some players are not 'believing' in him and he therefore wants to bin em off

Well I bow to your superior knowledge regarding the frequency of use of both 'trust' and 'believe' in football. Both are absolutely fine and clear in meaning!

I find it almost incredulous that staff would talk of rebellious players at a supporters club function.

Is there a transcript, or better, audio. Surely this is a case of out of context reporting?

I would imagine any professional football club has personalities in the dressing room that resist authority. We certainly had at least one last season.

Sticking to this topic, I think Freedman gets hard done by in some areas. I'm not talking about anything in this thread but some of the comments I've read towards him elsewhere have been unfair. As StaffsTrotter said, you can't really scrutinise what he says too much for a number of reasons.

Freedman has his failings as a manager but I think that's enough to criticise, I don't think his PR skills, or lack of them, are really relevant to us at the moment. I'd support him if he was an arrogant, egotistical, ignorant and hypocritical winner!
