Think it's more likely to just be that it's the weekend and we've had a match on, but it's possible some will see the writing on the wall for ol' Ian and think better of the move.

Friday rumours were Alex Murphy (Newcastle) as the defender and either Matt Smith or James Collins as Drogba - however it looks like Collins is off to Lincoln.

I think the prime Drogba is a young Premier League loanee.

I don't think we wanted Collins, but we'll see what happens.

I was worried Kion Etete might show up and join the queue to the physio room. Fits our usual recruitment profile.

It looks like the Alex Murphy loan hasn't been affected by the toxicity, apparently its close to being done according to the Geordies.

Iles saying it too and the lad's wiki entry already has him as playing for us.

Is this a ‘first loan’ that Evatt is ok with then?

He back tracked quite quickly on this - the PL loanee is this Alex Murphy from Newcastle, the prime Drogba is now an experienced, much older prime Drogba - as I said either a Matt Smith or James Collins type which is fine by me and exactly what we need an experienced big aggressive physical striker.

While it would be useful to have someone whose head can be a weapon and whose chest isn't just for advertising bathrooms, I'm not sure we need a slow striker allowing oppo defences to squeeze up even higher. We've somehow managed to end up with an assembly of strikers who are neither particularly fast nor much cop in the air.

Let's hope that whoever comes in isn't slow and at least has some pace.

Yeah, that's the hope but target men are rarely fast - I think that's what Evatt was referencing with his ill-advised "prime Drogba" phrase.

I don't think pace was ever the main weapon for Michael Smith or James Collins, and they're now 33 and 34 respectively.

The best hope for someone with pace and strength is a younger player, but we know there are risks there.

Scott Arfield was doing punditry on the Rangers game yesterday. Assume he's basically retired now!

I'm not sure he's backtracked on it at all.

He's been retired a while now. Why do you think Thommo has been wheeling around midfield in a bath chair. No wonder young George is struggling..

Murphy is Evatt's ideal skillset for a wide centre back and he can also play down the left. Big, strong lad who can run. Plenty of ability with the ball. Heads and tackles well.

The obvious issue is his lack of experience in the men's game. He's had some experience over in Ireland, so hopefully that means he comes here well used to some rough tactics.

We had to get Johnston some help and we have. Let's see how he does.

Reminds me of a couple of Januaries ago (though it feels like longer) when Iredale got knee-knack at the beginning of the window and then Johnston did right at the end, so we borrowed Mbete. That didn't work out, and then he did *his* knee too.

As you say, Johnston needs some help - or, frankly, replacing while he recuperates - and to me it's well worth taking this risk. Could be Mbete, could be Bradley. Sitting on our hands isn't an option.

Then again, I'd also look at sending Gethin off into the sunset and getting another (more experienced) CB in too, with an eye to a back four.

It's interesting that the transfer talk has seemingly gone quiet over the weekend, the Drogba esq striker & the young premiership loan defender etc. Perhaps the toxic atmosphere and substantial anti Evatt sentiment from the majority of supporters has put one or two off ? and to be honest you couldn't really blame them or perhaps the board have refused to sanction any more signings because if we lose tomorrow and at Hudds on Saturday I think that he'll be gone.
Or maybe, the board have seen the futility in giving Evatt more transfer dealings when he's got very few games left in the tank.

Presumably the board would've likely looked at the Cambridge game and considered it to be a must win for our season objectives, we failed to do that and now there's question marks over the plans in place for the rest of the season.

Didn’t Nixon say some Australian clubs are sniffing around Jones? If any of them are willing to pay money for him I suggest we snap their hands off.

All the power there is with the player. 6 months on his deal and able to negotiates precontracts with foreign clubs.

Murphy doesn't need to be registered. A senior defender would need space making for him and it may be that none of the 6 centre backs are interested in moving this window.
