See the last of Warnock according to the BEN.

Either way I think Dougie would like to get rid of a few. Who knows who they will be but I'm not sure if we will be able to get rid of them. None of them are looking great at the moment and if they are still on big wages (compared to other Championship players), then it may not be an easy task.
If true, you just know Sordell will go and start banging them in for fun.

Yeah but him banging them in at Cardiff is less of a problem to us at the minute than him not being able to get off the bench at Bolton.Sponge wrote:malcd1 wrote:I think he said the Mark Davies story was old and Swansea are unlikely to want him at the moment while he is injured.Caribbean White wrote:Sordell to Cardiff, and Mark Davies to Swansea, so says the oracle.

Although it has to be said, he had as many goals this time last season when we bought him. than the striker we're trying to buy from Barnsley.

No warnock. No real shame but we could do with getting that injury prone shithouse alonso replaced this window.

I thought Alonso was the messiah after the Birmingham game?

It's a shame about Warnock because he did well for us, but Dougie's right not to throw money at players.
As for Sordell, it's pretty much nailed on that he will go if an offer does come in and it's accepted as he was on his way there anyway before he came to us!

Again, I can't argue with the quotes:Worthy4England wrote:See the last of Warnock according to the BEN.

DF said rather than wrote:[Warnock] is looking for a contract we cannot provide. When we [sic] were in the Premier League with the TV money, we could pay the wages. But with the revenue we get through the door we have to make sure we spend it wisely. With Stephen looking for a longer contract and the money situation, I have got a responsibility to the club to make sure we buy in the market we can afford. That age is not value for money. Simple as that.
DF said rather than wrote:The kid [Butterfield] wanted to play week in, week out and I could not guarantee him that. With him not starting as many games, for different reasons, we shook hands and he goes back to Norwich. I just feel right now we need people who want to be here. They need to want to stay here. And if they don’t and they don’t want to come and sign – no problem.

saying all the right things... at the start of his reign he implied that the bit in bold also applied to the current incumbents... I wonder if this window will show any evidence of that... Sordell clearly (as in - I am totally guessing!) doesn't want to be here f'rinstance...Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Again, I can't argue with the quotes:Worthy4England wrote:See the last of Warnock according to the BEN.

Re: Worthy's better class of transfer thread
Elsewhere in the BN, Freedman confirms a centre-back is his short-term priority, and that Craig Dawson is a possibility:
Freedman also said there's been no contact from any potential buying clubs (the BN mentions the rumours of Alonso and MDavies to Swansea, Eagles to Everton and that perennial far-east favourite, Lee to Liverpool - but not MalkyMackaysMateMillwallMong-MentionerMarvellousMarvin Sordell to Cardiff. There are three or four players in the frame and we've got to wait until their parent clubs get through the FA Cup this weekend. Craig is definitely one of them.
We are okay once David [Wheater] is back but with a couple of injuries we’re very short in the short term. Matt [Mills] has been injured too, and it’s something we need to sort out. What I want to do is something short-term in January until David is back, or whether I decide to buy or not. In this division, the amount of knocks and bumps you get and the games you play makes it impossible with the numbers we've got.

Re: Worthy's better class of transfer thread
So people think, but in yet another BN story DF denies that Craig Davies' impending arrival means the end for Sordell, Afobe, NGog, Kevin Davies, Tom Eaves, Jack Sampson or the ghost of David Jack:thebish wrote:saying all the right things... at the start of his reign he implied that the bit in bold also applied to the current incumbents... On Craig Davies himself:Goals are something you can always do with. My idea is to have a few strikers on the bench. Goals change games and he [Cravies] is another option for us. I am not desperate to get anyone out of the way. Adding him to the squad gives us a healthy number of players striker-wise. We need to add to our attacking options, perhaps wider, but striker-wise we are sitting all right.
I tried to sign him a couple of years ago [he bid for Davies at Crystal Palace before his move to Barnsley] but I missed out on him. I have always felt he has huge potential. He is starting to fulfill that. He is the kind of character I want around this place. Somebody who has not been there, someone who has not seen it and done it. I want someone who is hungry to get there and Craig fits the bill. It’s the right price and the right deal and we are working hard to get it done.
Why he has had a lot of clubs could be for many different reasons. I just think he is a good age and has done quite well in this division. I think he is a bargain. He is hungry, he wants to be here. He has not got the tee shirt. He fits where I want to take this club.

"striker-wise we are sitting alright"???
ahh - that's OK then!

Re: Worthy's better class of transfer thread
Whats he actually said that every other manager hasn't said whilst trying to sign a player though?
Even the blameless Harry Redknapp does it "look at him, he's ace, blow-smoke-up-arse etc, I think he could be even better if he moved. What, move to us? Ooh, theres an idea...".

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

I like the concept of actually loaning players who we might be able to buy (Butterfield) as opposed to whatever the bigger clubs want to throw our way for a few months. Compare that to loaning Warnock who is a good player but financially out of our league... Warnock played more than Butterfield so you can say we got more out of it that way but it's a bit short-term. At least Butterfield was the right idea if he turned out to be better than what we had.
The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.

Perhaps the most intriguing quote is "We need to add to our attacking options, perhaps wider." A part of Gregg Wylde just died.

indeed... sounds a bit like: we're OK for strikers, we need more wingers...

Craig Davies seems an interesting proposition. Sounds solid and a goalscorer but you can never really tell too much from afar.
