Given he was sub for a fair chunk of the season, you might be right, but had we triggered Evatt when we should have, who knows?jmjhb wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 10:40 amI believe Dion would have gone regardless of the manager.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 8:59 amThe decision to sign Randall for more than a million quid and sell Dion for less now look very very poor ones.
I’d have fancied a new manager to get Dion firing and I also think Randall is a ‘flatter to deceive’ type we already have too many of.
But regardless of my view - those sort of major decisions should have been held back if there was a chance you were potting the manager.

Yeah, it's one of those. I suppose from a sustainability point of view though, his value was dropping with every passing month.
Re: In, Out, Shake It All About: January 2025 Transfer Window
The business planning element of operations probably had Charles down as a must sell. Bring in for X, sell for higher. If we do that for all our players it'll be good business sense.

It was, for sure, but had we been say third and in touch and he was still spearhead (And I dunno what's gone on behind the scenes), he'd have probably stayed and we would probably back ourselves to go up.
I'm not at all convinced we knew how to get Collins and Dion working, I'm even less sure we knew how to get the two of them and McAtee working. Oh and there's Vic. Lego collectors.

Terry Taylor who we were allegedly targeting, has just signed for Nolan at Northampton on loan. Perhaps he wanted to stay down south.

Doesn't surprise me - partly for the geography, but now partly for the uncertainty. I doubt there'll ne many ins or outs until late in the window now. The signings spotlighted by Markham/Ludonautics might not choose to come to Bolton while they don’t know who the manager will be (“I’ve heard it might be Steve Evans!”).
The managerial change might also freeze outgoings. Evatt hinted at a few exits, of which only Dion has come to pass (unless you include Khumbeni); although Randell Williams seemed to suggest he was packing his suitcase, it could be that the new manager is a big fan. Similarly, the lapsing contracts of Jones, Santos and Dacres-Cogley could be more (or less) likely to be renewed. (But i the new guy’s first action is to extend Arfield’s contract, I’m off to watch non-league...)

I think Taylor was on a list in case Morley left.
As DSB says, Morley going now seems very unlikely; because a new manager will want to assess his players. If players go now it will likely be the most obvious "on the out" ones, who represent the fastest deals you can do.
The manager is everything now. He has to come in and galvanise the group we have. Changes, though I'd like a couple, will be minimal.
It's the gaffer as motivator and psychologist. Lift the weight and blow away the cobwebs. All the plyers who have felt misused or undervalued need to feel loved again.
If we can get a new manager and a couple of players in before the window closes we'll have done okay.

Further to my point above re uncertainty, Iles was saying on the podcast that he thinks James Collins avoided us because of the Evatt unpopularity/volatility.

Not what he was saying the other day, but if he's heard something more recently fair enough.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 5:57 pmFurther to my point above re uncertainty, Iles was saying on the podcast that he thinks James Collins avoided us because of the Evatt unpopularity/volatility.
If the club felt players had started to duck us and the fans were clearly turning then all that adds up.
However, that player pressure makes it even more clear that they need to get the new guy in as soon as possible - because we are still in a window here.
Due diligence should have started some time ago. Hopefully it did.

Despite votes of confidence, I'd be really worried if they only just kicked everything off this morning...

If the hierarchy had started to look at potential managers, wouldn't Evatt have found out? Someone in the club would have been charged with the task and stuff like that doesn't remain under wraps for long.

Two games, one goal from just signing on. What backs that up?BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 8:59 am

Right decision to be honest.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 5:57 pmFurther to my point above re uncertainty, Iles was saying on the podcast that he thinks James Collins avoided us because of the Evatt unpopularity/volatility.
Bringing in another player who is quite old that has failed to score earlier in the season wouldn't have gone down too well had he gone down the Jerome route of not scoring. His previous season record was good.
Different story if we're creating chance after chance.
We need a player of his skill set, and i'm hoping we get one that is younger and a chance of having a future with our club.

Schumacher and Sam Cosgrove would be an interesting combination of incomings. Get the Plan B band back together.

Managerless Wycombe made their 2nd signing yesterday since Bloomfield left. Clearly, if the board appear to have a clear plan and agents are well rewarded, players won't be reluctant to join a leaderless vessel.

Re: In, Out, Shake It All About: January 2025 Transfer Window
Cosgrove has a very, very poor scoring record everywhere he's been. We need someone to chip in with 10 or so by the end of the season whereas outside of Scotland, he's contributed the sum of sweet FA most seasons.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2025 12:20 amSchumacher and Sam Cosgrove would be an interesting combination of incomings.
