Just watched this. Looks pacy and can tackle, and an eye for a pass.. and yes.. strong.

In an interview with the Scottish Sun he seems to have suggested he might want to become a cage fighter after football, which is not the career move of a shrinking violet

St Mirren couldn't match his wage demands so he left - and earlier in the summer the Daily Record said he had interest from Luton and (a club in) Belgium

This is an interesting profile with a promising start:

McAtee is as hard a runner as anyone. I hope he'd be given an opportunity to play off a target man, but I don't see it. I also don't see Thomason and Schon anywhere near his first XI
I heard a whisper than McAtee was spending the summer trying to find a move. Dunno how true that is.

I think he has a chance as an attacking midfield player but the issue is he looks very uncomfortable in that role - he doesn’t feel like he naturally wants the ball in those areas.

I think he’d maybe ideally not have Thomason or Schon in there either tbh. But depends how many he can bring in.
Yeah, this is another way of what I'm saying about McAtee and for that matter Randall. And what I mean when I say McAtee is a second striker rather than a creative 10. McAtee, as Boris says, would play well off a big man - but probably more as the 'late runner' for knock-ons. To be fair to him he has dinked in some nice short crosses, but they haven't been converted because we've been bobbins at headers.

For all the disappointment, IMO Randall seems to want the ball in those creative areas. He was trying hard in those last dead-rubber games. It's just that when he looked up in that position for Peterborough, he saw a dangerous forward (say Clarke-Harris) and two swift wingers ready to stretch defences. When he did it for us this spring, he saw Collins loafing about in front of him, Schon eagerly burrowing diagonally inwards and McAtee barreling into his team-mates' spaces. He therefore sometimes calculated that we'd be better off retaining possession and trying again, at which point he'd be castigated for being negative.
Randall. I had a bit of a glance at the Posh forums around the time he signed. They didn't describe, generally, a number 10 pulling the strings for some advanced "capable forward + 2 wingers," attack. They generally said - goes missing, can't tackle and thank fcuk he's going to Bolton.
A year ago most of their fans seemed to rate him. Albeit, there were misgivings regarding his physicality.

https://londonroad.net/Forum/showthread ... ht=randall
"Most" might be a bit of an overstatement - from their transfer thread in Jan - there were supporters too, but when the flip side is as per below, you know there's a shitload of risk in it, we need to stop signing people who have one brilliant sunshiny day a season. Hopefully that's now started.

"Joel Randall is getting panned now, and on the basis of bottling tackles, deservedly so." Can't argue

"I can't see any decent team moving in for Randall. Don't get me wrong on his day a different class but when the going gets tough, he goes missing too often. It's not a particularly good comparison but the same could be said of Marcus Maddison." True, but once bitten, it wouldn't be us, would it?

"Problem will be Randall won't see it and will hold onto the ball anyway." To DSB's point, if only he had Real Madrid's front three ahead of him

"Far too inconsistent for my liking. A pussy in the tackle and a shot like a pea shooter." Difficult to argue.

"He's no Tomlin or Madison. He runs around at his own pace, and when he's on song his passing is incredible. However he's lightweight and has a shot like he has sponges strapped to his feet. He's another player who can't head a ball, and he drifts in and out of games. He's a luxury player we could do without in a relegation battle which it could be this season. I presume he's on a decent salary here so anything over £1.5million with some add ons get rid" On his day, every once in a blue moon he hits some passes...

"Randall can pick a pass and unlock defences, however often there is no one on his wavelength or making a run." Back to everyone else again

"Randall? Fully expect him to be ‘out with illness’ if the latest rumours are to be believed." Did he suck his lolly, when we weren't automatically starting him?

"4 years Randall has been here and he's had about 20 good games max." Three and a half to go, could we get them all next season please...

"Randall at his best is very good but he’s rarely shown that this season. I’m not really sure why he signed the new deal. Let’s hope for his sake that he hits the ground running at Bolton as I suspect their crowd will be less forgiving than ours." You betcha.

From an interloper called "Farmer Cee" - we know a Cee don't we? :-) "Sounds like we’re getting Randall at the Reebok then but £1.5m sounds a lot to pay for me so he’d better be worth it. What we really need and have for ages is a strong tackling midfielder but reading your posts that’s not what he is. I suspect Evatt is trying to replace Maghoma who we have missed this season but it’s defensively we’re weak, we have nobody defensively breaking up attacks in front of the defence. I’m sure Randall’s decent but yet again it looks like another weakling show pony rather than the physical type we’re so sadly lacking. It’s been a poor season for both of us but at least with that amount of money you should be able to sign at least a couple that will make a difference so good luck for the rest of the season" What perception....Give this man a medal

"Take the money." I mean he didn't know how much at this point.

Per Transfermarkt, Richard Taylor is left-footed and although predominantly a centre-back, he has also played a fair few at left-back - including the majority of his 2022 season at League of Ireland side Waterford, whom he helped to second place in the second tier and a losing playoff final.

Again - I know some of us object to jacks of all trades, and I fully understand that - but having some fairly fluid players helps both in terms of formational flexibility and, frankly, squad numbers.
Left back (in a back four) or centre back is of course acceptable. It’s saying someone can do centre back or wing back that makes my teeth itch.

Another centre half coming in smells like one of the incumbents leaving.

I think we’d be at our squad limit with Taylor.

I can't tell if he can hit it 30 yards with the outside of his boot or knows what a pivot is, and sure click-reels are going to show the best bits. But.

He looks like he can read the game. (This might come back to haunt me somewhere in October) :-)

There are some players who can play both, but they’re not plying their trade in Div 3.

He looks pretty CB in his clip reel. I mean dead centre, CB, controlling the defence.

I'm going to need a mop.

Anyway Worthy, you're going to be well chuffed, as we're apparently signing someone called Richard Taylor.

As far as I know, it's still 22 overage outfielders. We are indeed at that liomit... but only if we include more or less everybody.

DEFENDERS: 7
Forrester
Johnston
Toal
Forino
Taylor
Dacres-Cogley
Conway

MIDFIELDERS: 5
Thomason
Morley
Simons
Dempsey
Sheehan

WINGERS/ATTACKING MIDFIELDERS: 7
Osei-Tutu
Mendes Gomes
Schön
Collins
Lolos
McAtee
Randall

FORWARDS: 3
Dalby
Adeboyejo
Nlundulu

So that's 22 but it's very low odds they'll all still be about:
• Collins widely linked with leaving.
• Adeboyejo, injured until Christmas, v likely to be deselected.
• Nlundulu must surely be loaned out.
• Lolos also very likely to be on his way.
• Conway yet to prove himself worthy of a squad slot (though I strongly hope he does).
• plenty reason to speculate on how others fit in. (5 centre-backs? 5 centre-mids? a million 10s?)

NB I can't easily see a birthdate for Charlie Warren (at least not our one, as opposed to Spurs' young defender). He's widely described as 21; if his birthday was earlier this year, he's in his final underage season, but if it was in the second half of last year, he's overage.

Assuming the keeper from Chelsea signs which seems likely that’s an entire new spine of the team all over 6ft.

Lowe - Taylor - Simons - Dalby

We’ve been crying out for a proper physical and solid spine. Let’s hope these lads can deliver.

Iles: "Wanderers are expected to complete the loan signing of Chelsea goalkeeper Teddy Sharman-Lowe after the weekend, having come to an agreement with the Premier League club."
