Mooy quits Wanderers
Sorry if this is posted elsewhere - couldn't see it anywhere.
I've just spotted that it looks like Mooy has turned down a new deal & is looking for 1st team football on the continent. Anyone know if he was as much a prospect as has been made out?

Good article here sums up my thoughts about Mooy as well, he was a very good prospect but certainly last season in the reserves didn't impress as much. Good luck to him.

Original 4 4 2 article:
The 19-year-old Australian midfielder, who has been dubbed a future Socceroos star, exclusively spoke with au.fourfourtwo.com whilst back in Sydney recently and revealed he had decided to turn down a new contract offer from the Trotters.
Mooy had been a regular for Bolton's reserves side last season, scoring several goals and winning much praise from the club's staff, but he couldn't break into the first-team.
"I'm not going back to Bolton," Mooy said. "They offered me a contract but I wasn't really happy with it.
"I'm going to trial for a few clubs in Holland, Italy and Germany."
Mooy wouldn't disclose the names of those clubs, but acknowledged the decision was a big risk.
"I didn't see myself breaking into the first-team (at Bolton) anytime soon," he said. "So I'm going to take a risk and try somewhere else."
Recently, several young Australians have secured contracts in the Netherlands including Socceroo prospects James Holland, Tommy Oar and Nikita Rukavytsya.
Mooy continued: "Everyone's been saying in Holland it's a good way to learn because everyone over there passes the ball around, it's not like everything's about results like in England.
"They try to teach the youngsters how to play. In England it's more, it doesn't matter how you play as long as you get the results."
Mooy, who was called up for a Socceroos camp last year for the Ireland friendly, said he'll be heading over to Europe in the first week of July.
In the meantime, he claimed he was maintaining his condition and said he'd never felt closer to full fitness.
Mooy scored one of the Young Socceroos' two goals at last year's disappointing FIFA Under-20's World Cup campaign in Egypt.
The youngster was also named player of the tournament at the prestigious Terborg Toernooi in May 2009.

Fair enough. He doesn't see himself getting any first tesam action any time soon (look at the list of our midfield players ... let alone that we are looking at Wilshire again ... he's probably right).
Also doesn't think we play 'his sort of football' ... well, I'd have bought that in the Megson days, less so now.
Has more chance of success on the continent ? ... well, maybe, we'll see. I wouldn't be surprised to see him doing well enough in years to come.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Partied with this bloke in the Greek islands a few weeks ago. All I can say is they must get paid extremely handsomely in the Dutch league. Nice guy though...Sir Nat wrote:Good article here sums up my thoughts about Mooy as well, he was a very good prospect but certainly last season in the reserves didn't impress as much. Reading between the lines he's actually saying, quite plainly, that he wants first team action & it's clear to him that he's not going to get that this year so he'll move on.tell ben im him wrote:not good enough move on
Obviously I've never seen him, but reports are generally good & he must have some ability. However, if he's looked & seen Davis, Muamba, Mark Davies, Basham, O'Brien, Gardner, Taylor, Lee ... plus the attempt to get Wilshire back then he's probably right. Good luck to him. ... edit; & Holden.
Either way, Odelay's clearly smitten, so maybe he needs to get away.

Report in today's BN says that we will be entitled to compensation for Mooy when he gets fixed up:
"Wanderers, meanwhile, will receive compensation if Aaron Mooy joins another top-flight club in Europe.
The Australian playmaker has severed his ties with Bolton after rejecting a new contract at the end of last season. "
Not sure what is classed as a "top-flight club", presumably if he goes outside Europe we won't be entitled to anything.

Because he's under 23 and we've offered him a written contract, it means we're due compensation by tribunal, should he sign on elsewhere. We'll get nowt for him thoughSir Nat wrote:Report in today's BN says that we will be entitled to compensation for Mooy when he gets fixed up:

"I've got the ball now. It's a bit worn, but I've got it"
Mooy has a pop....
Australian midfielder Aaron Mooy has attacked the youth coaching set-up at Bolton Wanderers after rejecting the club’s new contract offer.
Mooy was a regular for the reserves last season but has decided to look for a new club on the continent rather than take up the opportunity to stay at the Reebok.
His decision will add fuel to the debate raging in this country over the way youngsters are coached following the national team’s ignominious exit from the World Cup.
Mooy has been less than impressed with the standard of youth development claiming it is simply a results-oriented business with scant regard paid to the development of technical skills.
“They (Bolton) offered me a contract but I wasn’t really happy with it,” said the midfielder. “I didn’t see myself breaking into the first team any time soon, so I’m going to take a risk and try somewhere else.
“I’m going to trial for a few clubs in Holland, Italy and Germany.
“Everyone’s been saying in Holland it’s a good way to learn because everyone over there passes the ball around, it’s not like everything’s about results like in England.

It obviously didn't work out for him abroad:

Quote:
"St Mirren manager Danny Lennon has invited trialist Aaron Mooy back to the club for a further look.
The former Bolton youngster played in a behind-closed-doors match against Kilmarnock and made a favourable impression.
He played alongside ex-Clyde and Queens of the South full-back Michael McGowan along with an unnamed Frenchman.
However, the Australian Under-20 international picked up a knock in the game and Lennon is keen to see more of him before deciding whether to offer terms.
"We've also got Aaron Mooy who was at Bolton. He looked good, but had to go off during the first half with a knock.
"But he has been invited back so we can have a further look at him."

He could have carried on and fought for a place in the first team or got himself in the window by playing well in the reserves and attracting the attention of the various scouts who attend these games.East Lower wrote:Revelling in his misfortune eh lads? He could have carried on in our seconds for another year, and then been released - but instead he's tried to get a club now and forge a career for himself.
Hang your heads in shame.
Instead he chose to leave the club, rejecting a contract and slagging off the coaching methods into the bargain, and is now hoping for a second trial with St. Mirren.
I think this may be Schadenfreude, mein freund.

All true, but realistically he was never going to get a shout in the first team at Bolton - we aren't good enough at promoting players from the seconds.Gary the Enfield wrote:He could have carried on and fought for a place in the first team or got himself in the window by playing well in the reserves and attracting the attention of the various scouts who attend these games.East Lower wrote:Revelling in his misfortune eh lads?
