I was almost certainly there, on the Embankment, below the Warbys sign , my season ticket bought by my father as a parting gift as he and my mother and sister had left for a 'new life' in South Africa a few weeks earlier, leaving me with grandparents. 15 years old. It must have been very easy to see. The crowd was 14,584. Some with tangerine scarves...
Christ that sounds bleak! What did you say that made 'em scarper?

he bought them some cheerful books for christmas.... ;-)
Not tragic at all, Gary. My mother was convinced I should be educated - for her this was the key to a good life. I'm not saying she was wrong either. She was a sewing machinist, but surrounded herself with library books and romance fiction. I was the eldest. Had to go to grammar school - did - and she would not let me leave the school. My dad was desperate to find something new in life, working seven days a week, night shifts etc... Emigration was certainly not unusual.

They went leaving me in good and loving hands... though unhappy in many ways, tis true...

At the end of that season we were relegated. And following the whites had given an important focus to my rather lost life. However miserable the experience. Which, probably, gave me my enduring taste in literature....

Only just seen this. Very confused by Tango's post on the 'Where the one and only Wanderers' thread. Makes sense now. I thought he was taking liberties!

Aye go on then, but you have to promise not to try.

Ratbert is out of action for a couple of weeks due to a family bereavement. Please pm match previews and reports to me in his absence. Do we have a Toon preview and report anybody?

Edit. Just seen MJH offering the preview. It's yours. We just need a report. I'd like to get the preview up about lunch-time Friday if poss.

it's just a pre-match pep-talk piece musing on the game ahead - a warm-up - a curtain raiser to get the blood pulsing...

have a look down the front page and you will find several - but each previewer does it very differently..

tbh - we usually know who is injured - so listing who is injured (as in a sky preview) is a bit of a waste of time - so - a bit of crystal ball gazing, some opinion on who might play/formation - who will the key players be - some musing on old rivalries and some playing up of stereotypes and prejudices against the opposition all mixes in well!

Would you mind awfully if I knocked a bit of something up also, chap? I'll be taking my Uncle, a lifelong Blackpool fan, and thought I might post up his views on the game.

Take it up, Bruce - sounds a great idea. I'll do another later in the season. :D
