Rovers 0 Sunderland 0 - Thank Your Lucky Stars!

Post by Burnden Cat » Tue Oct 19, 2010 9:32 am

Having sat through ninety-odd minutes of interminable dross on 'Super Sky Monday Night Thingummy Bob' last night, I for one am relieved to say that we don't have to watch 'Brother Sam's Pragmatic 40-point Self-Salvation Show' anymore. The man has become a parody of himself & is strangling the life out of the sport. Utter dross. And behold, we're actually sat in seventh spot ourselves whilst playing a bit of football into the bargain. Wonders will never cease! And some said it couldn't be done.

Long way to go yet. Big Sam will do alright with B'burn. Just be thankful for the small mercy of improvement on 12 months ago.

Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Bit of Kettle and Pot there, methinks.

And Blackburn and Sunderland are only two points below us. We're not Arsenal yet. Keep your powder dry, soldier.

Flatmate's a Sunnerland fan. Tried to drag me along but I was having none of it. There were about 85 things I'd rather have been doing last night.

Just like we got into seventh spot playing 'pragmatic 40 point football' under Sam.

Think before you post.

If we all did that... there'd be fewer posts...

Aye, for a start 6th was our highest position.

Allardyce has gone stale and lost interest.

I'd have thought that would be obvious to everyone?

He lost his real drive and passion when he didn't get the England job.

Had to be "persuaded" to stay for his last season at Bolton. That proved to be a mistake.

Didn't Blackburn finish above us the season before last?

Missing the point... it's not just about how many points you get or your league position. That's why two-thirds of the Premier League are biting the hand that feeds in the long-term by serving up non-football. It's about looking forward to going & being entertained. Just saying that with a bit of imagination, we CAN have both.

The next two might not have happened had Allardyce gone a year before he did in the summer when he had to be persuaded to stay.

A clean break was required at that point and in hindsight appointing someone new and fresh and letting all the massive backroom team leave.

The mistake was trying to hang on to Allardyce for as long as possible even once his heart wasn't in it and then trying to hang on to the trappings by appointing Lee and keeping all the staff.

I'd be happy with 17th if we play nicely with some spirit. For a while under Megson I'd lost the will to live (side issue) and was almost hoping for relegation.

Just as likely we'd have got Lee and Megson a year earlier...

Anyway, i think you're right that Sam doesn't have the same commitment as he did during his Bolton years when he was doing something never managed for 40 years at a club that was a huge part of his playing career...

Quite possibly but my understanding is they started to sound Lee out about the job during Sams last season so possibly before then we might have gotten someone new and fresh.

I think the last 6 months of Allardyce's reign were very damaging to the club, once he realised that Anelka was not the holy grail key to the champions league and he needed to spend yet more of Eddie Davies' money things went downhill and we ended with an ageing side, that was stale, a manager who was uninterested and a dwarf ready to take over. Twas not good.

As for being less committed, lets not kid ourselves he'd be any different if he was here. He's less committed because he thinks he should be managing a top club and still has a massive chip on his shoulder that he isn't. Not to mention the England job. He put his interview presentation on a DVD dontcha know!

You mean when he left us with European football and nights like Munich, Madrid and Lisbon?

Massive Mistake

Got to leave that sort of thinking behind AW. We need to be at least looking at the top of the mountain even if we only make it half way up. We're improving and playing better football and, getting some results. The general picture's far better than it's looked for ages. Once this side gets really settled we're good enough for mid table. Every dog has its day.

In my time watching Bolton Wanderers we have had three great managers:

Ian Greaves
Bruce Rioch
Sam Allardyce

From everything I've seen so far the fourth will be Owen Coyle.

Allardyce is in there though, on merit. Never mind the manner of his departure or his subsequent career.

Indeedy.

Though I'm not old enough to remember Ian Greaves.
