On another list (a poper old-school email list) it has been pointed out that Coyle does a fine line in bigging up the opposition managers before games...

and it really does seem like quite a pattern...
here are the assocated headlines just to give a flavour:

"COYLE BACKS REDKNAPP FOR ENGLAND"

"HODGSON BACKED BY COYLE"

"COYLE: MARTINEZ A PURIST"

"COYLE SPRINGS TO PULIS DEFENCE"

"HUGHES THE PERFECT FIT - COYLE"

"COYLE TOASTS FERGUSON AS SCOTS PREPARE TO LOCK HORNS AGAIN"

and... right on cue:

"COYLE BACKS MOYES FOR 'ELITE' JOB"

Hush bish, stop giving our secrets away.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

To be fair this was a tactic adopted by our erstwhile manager also.

Didn't work for him.......

I think Megson spent most of his time thusly:

"Megson tips Megson for top job"

"Megson lauds his success in rescuing Bolton"

"Megson backs Megson to walk into another job" (he just need to finish dead-heading the sweet-peas)

....because he didn't transfer any praise to his own players, fans or club.

Coyle has a lot of respect from the footballing world - by and large (Burnley fans and tabloid columnists don't count) - because he gives a lot of respect to it in the first place. Only people who he hasn't given respect to are the refs, and, well.....

Moyes has a go at returning teh compliment - but you can tell his heart isn't really in it!

rescuing Bolton "a bit"??? what's that supposed to mean!!!

anyway - I didn't realise Moyes has the Manager of the Month curse to contend with too...

The praise for other managers is a bit OTT. However, praising so many makes the omissions all the more obvious. Yes Arsene, I'm talking about you!

Coyle: Wenger is two-faced (not relying on the subtlety of mere omission!)

Can't wait for:

HOLLOWAY MOST SENSIBLE MAN ON PLANET - COYLE

Two different perspectives of their club's current league position, I wonder who is most realistic.

Harry Redknapp talks up Spurs Premier League title bid http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/footbal ... 212875.stm

Owen Coyle plays down Bolton's top four status http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/footbal ... 213311.stm

And Coyle didn't even mention that we were in the bottom three when he came, he must have been reading the comments on this site.
Depression is just a state of mind, supporting Bolton is also a state of mind hence supporting Bolton must be depressing QED

The way the top teams are dropping points, the development of VDV and Bale and the amount of money invested in the club Tottenham should be gunning for at least a chance at top spot. I doubt it will happen though, because first of all they are Tottenham and secondly Champions League will play a factor. Still that is the position he should be trying to achieve and this is a strange season. Regarding Coyles speach who seems a lot less obsessed with the the bottom three when he arrived than yourself, I would say his comments were also very realistic.
