I was wrong
On first viewing I thought we'd got ourselves a new Gudjohnsen
Clearly, I had it wrong
Elmander has pace Eidur could only dream of having
Sell him for 3 million?
Give your heads a shake

Agreed he has finally shown what skill he has plus a significant amount of effort and commitment all over the pitch. Keep him and give him another contract, BUT he may not want one as his agent may now believe that he will be picked up by a much "bigger" club.
I hope that he recognises what Coyle has done for him and does the right thing and takes a new contract with us.

Depression is just a state of mind, supporting Bolton is also a state of mind hence supporting Bolton must be depressing QED

I wish I could be bothered going into the archives to dig out some of the crap people wrote about Elmander.

I slated Elmander last year, mainly cos i stuck my neck out in an article before the start of the season and said he would come good, and he didn't.
He's a class act, and Coyle is clearly getting the best out of him. I hope he signs a new deal and continues the form after Christmas......
But in the same respect I can't really find fault with people being critical of his first two seasons, looks like it were down to the manager though and how he used him. We were wrong, and yet right in a way at the time.

I also slated him last year, albeit not on this site as I was not a member at the time. But evry week I took stick about him from all my mates, which are mostly Unireh supporters and he just frustrated me but this year I love himofficer_dibble wrote:You don't have to look hard.mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:I wish I could be bothered going into the archives to dig out some of the crap people wrote about Elmander.

I have the yellow away shirt from a couple(?) of seasons ago with his name and number on the back. My support started when he signed for us and I believed he would turn good - I could tell he did have quality. Took a lot of stick from a friend for that support but look at him now. My favourite player (ever?). Haha

Elmander has only recently come good ie in the goal scoring stakes. If I'm being honest, it's hard not to have criticised Elmander in the past as he hasn't been effective up front. We paid an awful lot of money for him and he wasn't scoring goals. A willing runner he was and still is, quite decent at link up play but he just couldn't bag. Since Coyle has come in charge, and especially so this season he is bagging. He's full of confidence and looking like the striker we paid for and I hope he stays and signs a new contract.

Absolutely. Having a wanker shout into your face that "I've paid a lot of money for you, therefore I expect.." and having a guy nurture the best out of your undoubted talent are polar opposites!getraw wrote:Elmander has only recently come good ie in the goal scoring stakes. May the bridges I burn light your way
You're right, the change in management has had a massive effect on him but I was just trying to point out that it's all well and good saying "I told you so" regarding Elmander coming good but there is a time and place for criticism. I don't agree with all the vitriolic bile that some people have come out describing Elmander's performances, in the past, but the man was not showing enough of his "undoubted talent".Bruce Rioja wrote:Absolutely. I've gone through the whole range of emotions with Elmander.
I watched him in those early pre-season games after he signed and agreed with Caps at the time that he looked a better version of Gudjohnsen and one of the most exciting players I'd seen play for us.
Then he started the season scored in his first game and I was convinced we'd replaced Anelka well.
Then next game he was injured and struggled but hit form just before Christmas in the North East and I was sure he'd go on from there. But he didn't and I lost faith with him last season especially in the first 18 games where I just never felt he'd adapt to the English game.
Once Coyle came in I saw a player transformed and even though he wasn't scoring I could see how much work he put in and the tremendous qualities he had.
He's been outstanding this season and I hope so much he stays. If we have to sell Cahill and Habsi to finance a deal to keep Elmander then do it.
We can live without Cahill and certainly Habsi is a waste currently with our situation. To get someone who can do what Elmo did at Wolves we're probably talking doubling our record fee and we all know we couldn't get even half way to that. He needs to stay he's probably the most critical player alongside Kev and behind Holden to how we play right now.

We're £96m in debt. Its all well and good saying sign him up, he conned a living for over 2/3rds his stay here, so he owes us this for that massive fee. He's a professional, I'd be out of a job if I was costing a company that much and producing nowt.
Only took 2 1/2 years to say "I told you so". Of a 3 year contract. Have a think about that.

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Re: I was wrong
Thank goodness your beloved Megson got the sack, otherwise Elmander would still be playing like shit and you wouldn't be able to post sanctimonious stuff like this.CAPSLOCK wrote:On first viewing I thought we'd got ourselves a new Gudjohnsen

And it had nothing to do with the gobshite of a manager we had before?
