I think we tried when he was at Derby. Then Martin Jol went on a mental spree of buying every English midfilder under 20.
His range of passing and vision has become the more prominent part of his game over the past 18 months, since Harry gave him a more regular start. He and Wilshere (Muamba as cover, anyone?) could well be a formidable midfield partnership for England in a few years if they continue to improve like they have.
