Lies, damn lies
and er, this interesting statistic.
Man Utd
Berbatov - 14
Hernandez - 5
Man City
Tevez - 12
Balotelli - 5
Bolton
Elmander - 9
Davies - 7
So apparently we've the 3rd best striker-partnership in the prem. Though 5 of Berbatov's goals came in the game Blackburn rolled over for, so maybe a few of those shouldn't count.

and two of Elmo's came in the game where West Ham rolled over - t'would only be fair to chalk those off

They already have been. The Wolves goal counted for three, you see..thebish wrote:Jakerbeef wrote:and er, this interesting statistic.

Re: Lies, damn lies
...and IIRC Jussi has made the third-highest number of saves. With honourable mentions for Muamba/Holden's well-documented league-topping tackle-rate and a certain Gary Cahill (most defensive blocks in the top flight, 21, pre-Anfield), we've been getting it right in the very important bits at both end of the pitch. Hence the perhaps slightly inflated league position: we'll find it harder if Elmo/SKD stop scoring, Moo/Stu stop tackling, Cahill stops blocking or Jussi stops stopping.
Obvious, of course, and you can also argue that they're (near the) top because they're best, but I'm just saying: fine margins, folks, fine margins.

Re: Lies, damn lies

Link to Sky story on Opta stats here. Interestingly, they have us as the "team with most fouls" (committed? Presumably) - not sure who collated the Telegraph stats I was reading last night...
Stats can differ wildly - for example PA Sport, who provide stats for the official Barclays Premier League press releases (and therefrom the Cahill-top-blocking stat I gave you), have Robert Green topping the "Saves Made" stat with 113 prior to West Ham hosting Wolves - to tally with Opta on the link above, he must have made -62 saves against the Dogheads... and they still couldn't score...

Possibly linked to other keepers collecting crosses rather than dealing with the resultant shot though, no?Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:...and IIRC Jussi has made the third-highest number of saves.

Possibly linked to a shit, porous defence leaking more shots, maybe?

If shit defences get us 7th, I vote for shit defences.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Yes, but why? I think I've possibly gone some way to explaining!CAPSLOCK wrote:More obviously linked to only 2 keepers making more saves, yes?

Re: Lies, damn lies
If we're explaining it, lets list all the shots saved by Jussi that have come as a direct result of a cross he could/should have claimed...
They'd have been good saves.

Re: Lies, damn lies
I've been wondering how they get all the stats, especially the more detailed ones. Do they have one or more people pitchside plugging data into a spreadsheet? Or does a computer analyse the video footage and figure it all out using some very clever software?Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:![]()

One of the games I went to this year at the end of the game the BBC said we had about 59% possession, then the next day it had dropped to 40 something. Makes me think that they work it out and if it looks wrong they just change it to a number that looks more righter.
The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.
