Chungy on a busman's holiday.

Anyone know how our favourite right-winger is getting on?
I'd rather support Bolton than be you.

I do believe that Gavin McCann is still injured and still working with the club to try and get fit.

According to the Asia Cup website the competition doesn't start until the 7th and Korea don't start their first game until the 10th

So we could have had him for the Chelsea match ..... ! Idle b'stard.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

It's annoyed me how early they wanted him to go to join up with the team considering Tim Cahill has played for everton all the way up to new year's day!

They're playing in Qatar, have to acclimatise etc.

If Osieck could have dragged Cahill away earlier he would have, Moyes would part with his left nut sooner than give him up.

Eh? There are clear rules when clubs have to release players. If Australia wanted him within the timeframe (and I think its 10 days or 2 weeks? before their first game) then they have him, nothing Moyes could do about it.

Not saying otherwise, just that in the case of us, Chungy and the Korean FA we've chosen to be accomating while Moyes has made it clear on numerous occasions that he'll hold onto Cahill until the last possible moment - he makes a song and dance about it every bloody WC/Asian Cup qualifier and friendly.

Schwarzer was still at Fulham on New Years Day too

Sparky wasn't whinging about it months in advance though.
Moyes is powerless to prevent Cahill going but insists Everton should not have to pay his wages while he is unavailable for the Premier League.

"They are due to take Tim in mid to late December and depending how far they go in the tournament will determine how long he is away," Moyes told the Liverpool Echo.

"I'm trying to delay him going until January and will do the best I can but I think it's unfair.

Does he do that when it comes to his African players as well?

And the Korean team has had two friendlies, including one today against Qatari club side al-Jahzira. I've heard that Chungy scored today but the game was still ongoing the last time I checked so I'm not sure if he got anymore/was subbed out early etc.

The first friendly was a couple days before New Year's Eve against Syria, and Lee looked generally tired (probably still fighting jet-lag) but had some bright moments. I think he was subbed out around the 60-minute mark so some younger players could get match time. I'll use this thread to update you guys after the Cup gets underway.

I think he does do complain about the ACN too. All managers seem to, despite how twattish they sound.

At least I suppose Moyes could argue that when he signed Cahill Australia didn't play in the Asia Cup, but still, it's been five years. If you're not happy with mid-season international tournaments, don't keep players who will compete in them. There's nothing unfair about it.

Now that I think about it, Cahill hasn't normally been missing mid-season games for the Asian Cup. Not only because Australia just recently joined the AFC, but because the Asian Cup is supposed to be a summer tournament. It's being held in the winter to accommodate the host, Qatar. :hang:

Maybe in this instance, but I have very little sympathy for the ginger nice person.

He's got a long history of throwing the toys out of the pram over Cahill going anyplace with the Socceroos with a vehemence that he doesn't have for the African players fufilling their obligations. I put this down to a refusal to accept that Australia and the Asian confederation are 'credible' in some way, residual bitterness over Cahill becoming an international player shortly before he signed him and a realisation that he's consistantly failed to procure a forward line that can cope without him.

CYL scored the opener latching onto a cross then squeezed a PK call out of the ref 3 minutes later which someone else converted.

I love this line, it makes LCY seem like a veteran! What is he? 21? 22?

I have every sympathy with managers losing players to go and play tin-pot internationals.

Sorry people won't like this, but Everton pay Cahill a lot of money. To lose him for a month is ridiculous.

I know all the stuff about playing for ones country, but for me international football became secondary many years ago whether we like it or not. Whilst there is nothing Moyes can do about it, I do have sympathy and think its infuriating. Especially when you consider how much these countries benefit from their players playing in European leagues that they are then asked to fly half way round the world and back for friendlies and pointless internationals that could be held at better times. +

Tin pot? Because it's not European? A lot of European leagues lose players to the Euro's... Is that 'Tin pot'?
