I just hope this doesn't result in a refereeing back-lash against us! Then again as Owen seems to believe, the decisions can't get much worse?

Sam Allardyce did exactly the same thing.

I really can't see how its going to help. I don't think we've been the "victim" of a concerted campaign just been on the wrong end of some decisions but which teams aren't?

I'm not sure stuff like this does anymore than put referees backs up. I suppose it creates an us versus them closeness within the squad but even then the risk is people start feeling indignant and "hard done by" rather than getting on with it.

Not a fan of this stuff myself, but I'll trust in Owen as ever.

Won't trouble them any. Every club in the league could put together a DVD like that, even the Sky Four. Referees make mistakes and bottle things, always will and they aren't going to have a rethink about how their little club operates anytime soon.

Why isn't anybody mentioning the push to Cahill's face by Torres? Or is it all being edited out? Granted, it was as soft a push as ever, but by the letter of the law....

Thank you!!! Agreed it was soft, but as you say, by the letter of the law he put his hand in Cahill's face. It was a farce.

Good on Owen. The pressure Sam piled on the ref's association helped us last time, I'm sure of it. He put it on the agenda. For a while we too benefitted from some friendly reffing.

And it certainly can't harm.

Do you honestly think so?

I think it put their backs up even more and probably only served to raise awareness of us. Which is why they started using Kevin Davies' videos to teach refs about backing in and elbows!

We got decisions (say like the Reina one against Pool) that we would never have got in previous seasons. Ever.

Does it show our Captain's first goal in the 4-2 win over Spurs at home?

we got quite lucky with the Mark Davies handball in the area against Liverpool...

(and a couple of others in other games if memory serves....)

I think this kind of stuff, however true, just makes us look whining Wengers...

Saw some stats yesterday - we're in the top five teams for being fouled, not in the top five for fouls conceded, but we're in the top five for cards received. IIRC Spurs are the most fouling team but aren't in the top five carded.

Just sayin'.

Personally i'm hoping our pleas may be listened to more this year than in previous ones due to our 'healthy league position' although if West Ham/Wolves had done the same i'd agree with the Winging (Wengers  ) comment. Ah well, Coyle tinted glasses and all that.

But you can always quote the "individual decisions".

Knight committed a handball against Stoke, blatant, we got away with it.

Davies scored an offside goal against Spurs this season....

Some things will always go your way others not.

More one way than another.

Its good to use everything to our advantage, in a league where everyone does the same.

As yon Bobby said, you don't know what you'll do until you're put under pressure... Might just work in our favour.

He's a black belt or something, isn't he?

is it though? should our players start diving and feigning injury in the manner of (say) Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool?

I, for one, would rather they didn't - and if the cost is the odd point lost, losing an advantage - I'd take that one on the chin.

At the time of the Reina incident there seemed to be a bit of ambiguity over the moment the ball starts and ends to be under the control of the goalkeeper. Within the appendix of the Laws Of the Game, there was something about fouling the 'keeper after the ball has left hands and before he's kicked it. The wording was along the lines of "the ball is still considered in the goalkeeper's hand until the moment he has kicked the ball".

A (not small) number of refs at all levels interpreted this as "well, if the ball's still in his hands until he's kicked it, it can work both ways". I saw, IIRC, seven or eight free kicks given at our matches - for and against - for exactly the same thing in the few months before the Reina incident.

Turns out the refs in our league were briefed that it's handball even if the 'keeper throws it up well inside the area and kicks in the D, and it was alleged that refs all over the country were asked to do the same.

Maybe Zulus could shed light on it, but I thought it bizarre that I was being roundly abused by people (not here - wasn't on TW back then) when I said that the Reina decision was the correct one going off the information I'd been given off referees.

DISCLAIMER:This is not my opinion - this is something I feel I should bring up on mention of the Reina handball incident.
