Reserves v Newcastle

Post by Riviman » Tue Feb 01, 2011 9:52 pm

Good game tonight at Leyland, reserves winning 4 - 3 after being 4 - 0 up at half time. Team:
Lainton,Riley,Dennis, Eckersley,Alonso, Blakeman,Connloy,Ward,Eaves,O'Halloran,Obadeyi.

Goals from Blakeman, Eaves O'Halloran(2),

One up after 5 mins, then after 15mins Dennis sent off for professional foul, 3 more before half time. Second half belonged to Newcastle which was only to be expected as a bit of tiredness set in.
Couple of players worth a mention:
Eaves- best game so far in the reserves matches that I've seen, held the ball up well, lead the line well and scored an excellent goal chipping the keeper.
Alonso - a good game with one superb cross field pass that lead to one of the goals, Beginning to look like a player that is worth the money spent on him.
Ward - getting back to full fitness and possibly the pick of the team.
O'Halloran - started brightly, took his goals well, very quick, taken off late in the second half after covering every blade of grass.
Obadeyi - Ran down a lot of blind alleys, can't deliver the final ball, watching him you can understand why the likes of Shrewsbury sent him back !!!

One final point the refereeing( a Mr Banks) was one of the poorest displays I've seen at this or any level, The third Newcastle goal was scored with our centre back, Eckersley, lying injured in the middle of the goal, he had been lying there for fully 2 minutes and the ref refused to stop play even though at one time Newcastle had the ball on the half way line. This was just one of the many incidents that he got hopelessly wrong- a Mark Clattenburgh in the making !!!
I feel reborn !!!! No more confussion

I'm sure we beat Newcastle about 2 or three years ago by the same scoreline. Ricardo Vaz Te scoring a hat trick and generally looking like the world beater he is.

He's available you know.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Goal from Blakeman AGAIN - time to stick this lad up front..........time also to give him his chance in the firsts, we could do with a decent left-back.

If he's scored a few, he could play one up front for the First team. That Sturridge has done feck all since he's been here and given our Football Manageresque view of possible team selections, lobbing a free scoring LB in as CF would be a coup of the highest water. He's also young, so that's extra points and a wunderkinder bonus unlocked, if he's replacing anyone over the age of 23. :-)

I don't believe actually scoring is a factor. Pace, movement and sitting in someone's reserves seem to be the most important facets. :-)

How did Connolly play? The game's I've seen recently, he's been controlling from midfield.
