Player of the Season 2010/11

Post by BWFC_Wyles » Thu Feb 03, 2011 1:15 pm

The website has started the voting process. A bit premature with it only being February but we may as well open up another couldren of debate.

Votes? Robbo for me. Followed by Stu Holden

Stuart Holden. Even if he's terrible for the remainder, his effort so far is way ahead of everyone else.

You should have done it for half season ;)

Also, where is the option for Sturridge?!

Holden streets and streets ahead of Robbo who is streets and streets ahead of everyone else bar Chungy. Elmander doesn't deserve to be up there purely because it seems to be an award designed to recognise consistency, and that is the one thing he is not. Apart from 'hard'. World Class Octember. Shite since.

1. Holden
2. Robbo
3.LCY.

I'm going to root for Robbo for his performances so far this season - it's hard to spot a good full back's game. You tend to notice when they balls up, and I have seen him but in some good shifts. Plus he will tw@ anyone who doesn't vote for him :)

Holden is obviously the correct answer.

Prufrock's reasoning for LCY being ahead of Elmander blows my mind, considering they've the same number of assists and he's got five times as many goals.

I fort I'd explained it. Player of the Season to me implies a reward for consistency. Surely no fecker could argue Elmander has been consistent? Utterly brilliant for a bit then absolute gash for a bit. Chungy has that creative spark that so much of our play relies on. He might not have as many direct assists, but he is involved in almost everything good we do. It is hard picking a third though, since Holden>>>>>>>>>>>>Robbo>>>>The rest.

I agree - imagine having Robbo in your top 3...

I don't know, it's not like we're consistent either. Infact, Elmanders season probably mirrors ours..... Solid for a couple of months, very good for a couple, shite, ???. Still, even if you deduct the goals he scored in the October/November glory period, that's still comfortably more than anyone else has from open play.

I'm not even sure LCY was that good in the early part of the season, he looked very tired to me (with good reason - will there ever have been a more well earned holiday than the one he'll get at the end of this season? I wouldn't be suprised if he just hibernated until pre-season starts). It's only since he's been gone and we've forgotten how to kick a ball straight that he's been retroactively promoted having been great all the time.

It doesn't really matter, I don't think they vote a top three in these things anyway. Barring a horrific injury/Daniel Sturridge being a time-travelling 1970's Pele in disguise, Holden is going to walk it.

Its more than likely going to be Holden unless something remarkable happens.

My top 3 (SO FAR)....

1) Holden
2) Robinson
3) Elmander

Top scorer. For a club who in recent years has struggled to score goals, top scorer at this stage has to be in the top 3.

The past 2 seasons are irrelevant and clouding people's judgement.

If we'd signed Elmander in the summer he'd certainly be on people's lists because of the goals he's got and everyone would be prepared to wait for him to get his form back.

Yeah but that's not how most people work, sadly.

He had a cracking two months, but that's not enough to win player of the year (unless you're Ginola or Giggs)
