Strike Partnership
So then, we have some decent attacking options. We have a pair of strikers who are a little out of touch in the goalscoring stakes, an underused but often injured fan favourite on the bench and the new kid on the block.
Opinion seems pretty split on who's performing the worst, but which striker partnership would you want to see head into the next run of games?

Re: Strike Partnership
Davo & Sturridge. The ball isn't always going to be on the floor when you've got Ricketts and Knight in the team, so Davo winning the ball for Sturridge to do the rest is definitely the best option

Re: Strike Partnership
Where's the Sturridge and Moreno dream team option gone?
For me, it's about whose playing worst (rather than who's the better). Davo looks awful at the minute - dunno whether it's old age, whether his bro-in-law is still poorly or what, but need a break.
Elmo and someone else - probably Sturridge

Re: Strike Partnership
Good question. If you accept that Davies needs a rest then it would have to be Elmander and Sturridge for me.
Now, if we go to a 4-5-1 for some games what do we do? Do you play Sturridge up front on his own, and I don't know enough about him yet. That leaves playing Elmander up front on his own, and if I suggest that I'll get slated. Tough call.

Elmander and Sturridge, but with Lee as part of a three up top.
Re: Strike Partnership
Davies + Sturridge for me, although elmander sturridge would be decent

I'd go elmo and sturridge too on current form. Isn't sturridge 6ft2 anyway? Should be able win the odd knock down himself

Re: Strike Partnership
We need some "big man, little man" like at Spurs and City... where's the option for Knight and Robbo?
Is Klasnic fit?
Elmo and Sturridge sounds good to give SKD some rest, but I haven't seen him in action yet.

Front 4 of Petrov, Sturridge, Moreno and Lee.
If Coyle wasn't such a nice person, he would have had Riga in there aswell. With Vaz Te.

Re: Strike Partnership
It would be silly not to use Sturridge while we have him, but it's worth remembering quite a few teams are battling just like us; the league's upside down and money will always be our main enemy. Brits are no longer all we play;the Prem attracts the world's finest players and we just don't have the money or big city attraction to compete. If we finish the season in the top half, if only just, it will be mission accomplished in a big way . It's just good to have this sort of striker choice for a change and a golden opportunity to rest KD,who, fit and with Elmander is my first choice. Ride the wind while we can.

Re: Strike Partnership
Just to say - not knowing his fitness, nor where his head is (do the charges still hang over him?), our most instinctive striker is Klasnic...

He was re-bailed this week until April 1st. It must surely be the player pushing for this re-bail, I wouldn't like to think we had a justice system that dicked people around to that extent.

Re: Strike Partnership
I'm wondering with Sturridge a bit more established than Wilshere was whether we would see him in action earlier or whether we will see a similar delay through til end of Feb until he has got used to his teammates?
End of the day there's genuine competition now for those places, so perhaps the current front two can run the next 3 games and see if it gets the response intended (Sturridge is cup-tied I think, is he?). If not see who hasn't reacted the most and in comes Danny boy.

Drop Elmander. Immediately. Then worry about Davies.
Sturridge and Davies to start with, Elmander to come off the bench in times of EXTREME necessity.

Re: Strike Partnership
Currently I'd like to see Elmander and Sturridge get a chance together up front.
Davies always gives Spurs a hard game, but away from home, it would be nice to see two players with a bit of pace and movement have a go. If it don't work then Davies is on hand to come in and give us something different.
Personally I think KD needs a rest and Klasnic is obviously not fancied enough to play for whatever reason. So Elmander and Sturridge for me.

Where does Elmander fit into this? If you mean chasing the ball but turning your back/closing your eyes/jumping out of the way/pretending to be hit in the face then sure.BWFC_Insane wrote:Currently I'd like to see Elmander and Sturridge get a chance together up front.

Re: Strike Partnership
Thats irrelevant. What I mean is someone who doesn't spend the entire game backing into the defender not getting off the ground not winning the header then standing still, oh and when the ball does arrive at feet, standing still taking an age to think what to do then fecking up a simple pass. Face it Davies is the worse out of the two, whether he's knackered, mentally not right or just having a bad spell it would be better for us IMO to give him a break. I fully realise it won't happen.Lofthouse Lower wrote:Where does Elmander fit into this? Elmander has a turn, run and pass in him and therefore might go well with sturridge who may benefit from that sort of forward with him IMO!

Re: Strike Partnership
To be honest I think they're both as bad as each other. Elmander is scared of the ball and Davies can't change his form no matter how much he might want to.
One up front - young lad with a bit of pace to trouble Woodgate and Gallas - flood the midfield.

Re: Strike Partnership
From a purely strategic point Elmander may be off in the summer. So we might as well flog him to death whilst he's here and give Davies a rest to make sure he's fresher next season when he will be here.Lofthouse Lower wrote:To be honest I think they're both as bad as each other. I don't think there is any chance of going 1 up front though its what I'd do for Spurs (I imagine most folk would too)!

Re: Strike Partnership
Davo only has 1 year left on his deal after that - therefore his re-sale value is going to be at its peak this Summer. Wonder if we could engineer a bidding war between Chesterfield, Millwall, Southampton and Sheff U
