Liverpool are to approach Bolton and offer them a substantial package for their defender Gary Cahill according to reports.

The 25 year old Cahill is being tracks by a number of Premier League sides and Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish is hopeful that he will be able to make the England international his fourth signing of the summer. Joining Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam and Stewart Downing.

Bolton manager Owen Coyle will be reluctant to lose his star defender and Bolton will want a sizable fee to even consider parting with him.

However, it is believed the package that Dalglish will offer Bolton, will also include additional payment clauses based on the player’s individual performances and the team performance as a whole.

Cahill fits the remit of the type of player that owner John Henry has instructed Dalglish to bring in during the summer and the capture of Cahill will certainly help Liverpool from shipping unnecessary goals next season.

But Liverpool nevertheless will face stern competition for Cahill and Bolton could well see a bidding war ensue as a result.
13m + ngog will do just nicely.

I find it hard to take any article seriously that contains the phrase "Cahill is tracks".

I'm sure he is.

Cahill's performances - maybe - based on appearances - BUT - why the feck should we accept any deal based on how the rest of the Liverpool team do??? what on earth is that to do with Cahill or us??

He'll be using a Blackberrrrrryyy.

I found "Bolton manager Owen Coyle will be reluctant to lose his star defender ..." a tad bizarre.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

At this point would you take a straight swap Cahill for N'Gog?
I'd rather support Bolton than be you.

.... with about 4 other first teamers added in, that'd then be a "no".

No wouldn't take a straight swap! would take a straight swap for joe cole, ngog and Martin kelly and on a combined wage that matches G Cahill!

Dont need Joe Cole, plus these multiplayer swaps just dont happen - one plus cash maybe, so you would imagine it would be Ngog if anybody.

Yeah i do like the idea of £10 mill with ngog on permanent basis! But i reckon they will bid more £6-7mill at most he is last year of contract and that puts in the middle of a rock and hard place!!! Go down Anelka route new contract more money with buy out clause of £17mill or something like that figure!!!

£13m plus N'Gog would be a good bit of business. Owen could then hopefully work his magic in the loan market
Pfffft.

Bad as it is, "Cahill is being tracks" isn't as heinous a grammatical error as the partial sentence in the second paragraph. Hey ho, perhaps, but it does tend to cast doubt on the author's ability. And sure enough, Dave Sawyer isn't a journalist but a former Ladbrokes IT bod. And as he's the chief writer on a site that (ungrammatically) claims "All our writers on Footie Online, will where applicable, mention the source of information for their work" we can only assume the source is either too top-secret to be named (Dalglish?) or doesn't exist.

Which is not to say Cahill to Liverpool wouldn't work: they need a centre-back or two and he would fit in there. However, after an early-summer splurge they appear to be somewhat coppering up and there are certainly a lot of players they need to get rid of. So it could be that a deal can be done fairly quickly on Ngog - not a bad player, FWIW - and once dialogue is open there could be a deal done for Cahill, if LFC can persuade their owners FSG to put up money ahead of impending player sales.

Liverpool do have a rather large squad, is there anyone besides N'Gog that we would realistically take in a deal that meant Cahill went the other way?
Pfffft.
