FA Cup fourth round replay: Wigan v Bolton

Post by Verbal » Mon Feb 14, 2011 8:52 pm

Less than 48 hours to go now. ooooooooooooh.

So, beat these men and it'll be Craven Cottage on Sunday. Defeat will see us out of the cup but have ten days until we head up to face the toon.

I think we need to recall Andranik for this one.

Who's going? Predictions? Things you would rather do than go to Wigan on a Wednesday night?

My prediction is that it'll be fairly empty and the usual draw.

Can we just toss a coin?

This is the first of 3 games in a 10 day period that will define just how successful this season will be. Sitting on 36 points with 11 to play, not even the most pessimistic on here would bet against us staying up. That gives us the luxury of taking the cup seriously.

On our day we can dispatch Wigan with ease, and will do, leaving a tough, but winnable fixture at Fulham on Saturday. There's a big man in the stands in the sky watching us, and I would love it if we could do well for him this year.

After that we take on Nobby's army - win that and the "E" word will be out.

I'm off to count some chickens.

Well we can still freshen it up, though we've potentially got 10 days til next game have we if we lose.

I'd stick out

-------------Jussi-----------
Sam Cahill Wheater Alonso
Lee Muamba Holden Petrov
--------Mandy Davies------

Sturridge is cup tied....return of the Klas!

Probably get Rodrigo onto the field, and Petrov for Taylor as well, so:

--------------Jussi---------
Ricketts--Wheater---Cahill--Robbo
Rodrigo--Mavies--Holden---Petrov
--------Davo----Elmander------

Chungy to come on and swing it in the second half.

In my heart I kinda wanna put Rodrigo behind Davo or Mandy but I know the gaffer won't shake up his strike force

Petrov I think is a cert to start. I can't see him dropping Davies or Elmander, so I'm not sure where Rodrigo or Klasnic would get in. Perhaps Coyle may take the view that Rodrigo for Sturridge would be as good a like for like as we could get, but then that is slightly harsh on our new utilty winger/dogsbody, who probably earnt the right to either play in something resembling his own position, or get the night off.

So I'll go....

-----------------Jussi------------------
-Ricketts--Wheater--Cahill----Robbo--
-LCY----Mavies------Holden-----Petrov--
-----------Rodrigo------Davies-----------

Christ there's a fair few players who can't/won't defend in that line-up.

Got a feeling Alonso may get a run as well as Roderigo with Robbo on the bench till OC sees how it's going. With a hard game against Fulham to follow if we win and then a league game against Newcastle he can't risk totally jaded players anywhere. Price of success for playing Prem sides. Problem is, if he slots people in and we win against the Pies, who doesn't play against Fulham? Might be a few not-so-happy bunnies.

I wish we have a go at a good cup run, and hopefully I can see more of the trotters on TV. Makes it more worth it paying the cable provider.

Surely we must give one of Holden or M Davies a rest?

Think I'd rather stop at home and watch Barsenal v Arsecelona.

I'd drop Holden and Robinson and replace Sturridge with Rodrigo and give Febreeze and Alonso a run.

5-0 to us

I must admit I would, although having his injury when he did we might yet find that Holden has enough legs to get him til the end of the year now.

The slight problem we've now got with Alonso is that he looks quite off the pace and not likely to get a game. But if he doesn't get a game, he's not gonna get to the pace of the game. And Robbo's looking likely to get a two match ban at some stage, so when do you bring him up to speed?
