Moot point, cos we're gonna win the cup. Plus, as has been said, this is a very specific and probably unlikely scenario.

I agree its unlikely, but I wonder if there's ever been a game before, in the history of football, where a team is better off losing than winning?

City won't be in the final. City won't be able to get enough points to get 4th place on the final day as they'll be adrift of the top four by at least 4 points.

That kind of scenario can happen over here. I am quite certain some teams do not try hard in a final game or games to either eliminate an opponent from the playoffs in favour of a weaker one, or to get a higher draft pick. However, I don't think any manager or player would publicly admit the fact, or they would be subject to massive fines for bringing the game into disrepute. In answer to the original question I would prefer to lose to City if it meant ensuring Europe. However since we will beat Stole and the scum will eliminate Citeh, the question will not arise and we will destroy Citeh in the final game.

Chungy in net, Muamba up front. Elmander as the dominant centre half. SKD at left back. Cahill on the bench coz he'd be passable anywhere.

Has there ever been any confirmation of this actually being what would happen?

Shows how far we've come when City fans are worrying about us two months in advance.

Im not a City fan. Just a fan of conspiracy theories and strange football matches where both teams want the same outcome!TANGODANCER wrote:Shows how far we've come when City fans are worrying about us two months in advance.

If City win the FA cup but finish outside of top 4 in 5th say they will have qualified for Europa league by two methods and therefore would the second qualifying spot go to losing finalist in the cup or to the next highest placed team in the league?

No one really knows for sure.david lee's bald patch wrote:If City win the FA cup but finish outside of top 4 in 5th say they will have qualified for Europa league by two methods and therefore would the second qualifying spot go to losing finalist in the cup or to the next highest placed team in the league?
Including the powers that be at UEFA, the Premier League and The FA.
I think basically they all just assume that Liverpool will scweam and scweam and scweam until they are sthick because they're not in it so they'll give the qualification to them.

Re: Will Bolton throw the City game to get into Europe?
As far as the Europa League positions are concerned, the FA Cup position takes precedance over the league one. So if Man.City win the FA Cup and come 5th, they will qualify via the FA Cup. This is why if Bolton lose to City in the final, they will want them to come in the top 4.david lee's bald patch wrote:If City win the FA cup but finish outside of top 4 in 5th say they will have qualified for Europa league by two methods and therefore would the second qualifying spot go to losing finalist in the cup or to the next highest placed team in the league?

Such as? Such as this one obviously. It's a pretty unusual situation you have to admit. It's hardly shit stirring - just wondered if Bolton fans were aware of this scenario and what they would make of it. That's all.

Hmm, well ok. Lets just say I support one of the two teams that stand to lose out from this scenario. But I dont mind, I actually want it to happen - just for pure entertainment reasons.CrazyHorse wrote:Strange you've still not nailed your colours to the mast yet, don't you think?
