Wembley - Knight or Wheater?

Post by truewhite15 » Sat Apr 09, 2011 8:27 pm

Previous to today's game, I'd have said the answer was an easy "Wheater".

But Zat Knight was (IMO) outstanding today against an, admittedly poor, West Ham attack.

So who do you have playing alongside Gary Beckenbauer at Wembley?

You realise you've just jinxed Cahill for Wembley now, don't you?

So after that, we have no choice but to play Wheater and Knight.

Thread over really. You've only yourself to blame.

Knight for me, extra height.

Briefly been thinking about playing Wheater at full back too for the extra aerial power, but then that'd just be a bad idea really wouldn't it.

Knight, he has done well all season and can't just put Wheater in there because he's had a good few games.

Wheater drove past us in a ridiculous Ferrari today, how much are we paying him?! 'W33 TER' was the reg, lad needs spelling lessons ;)

Anyway, its nice headache to have. I think it would be hard luck for Wheater to miss the game, after all he's been in our cup side, and our first team, pretty much since he arrived.

I have a feeling that Wheater will get the nod at Wembley, and that he was being saved a booking today. I'm not sure Coyle has quite given up on the league like some have on here.We need a squad for that. Its just a shame for whoever misses out, though.

When lads are so committed to trying for the team it's a hard choice. One in, one on the bench and hopefully we'll do enough to let both have a touch of the Wembley experience. Wheater to start for me since it's fairest, I think, but after today it'll be a difficult choice.

Knight extra height? Forgetting he isn't particularly good in the air, and Wheater is only an inch shorter. I'd back Cahill to beat Knight in the air more times than not, and certainly Wheater. Zat was excellent today, but still Wheater for me. If MD is fit him in there with Elmo Coming from midfield behind Davo, if not, same midfield as today with Klasnic for Sturridge.

I think we'll go with Zat, merely because he is the senior of the two very good cb's at the club, minus cahill who is pretty much the first name on the team sheet atm. Next year Wheater will have some big shoes to fill and will be amongst the first choice XI week in, week out, but at the moment it is Zat's position and I think, especially given todays performance, he's the right choice for Wembley.

Before today I'd have said Wheater. But with how Knight played and his extra height I think he'll get the nod. Wheater struggled a bit at Brum and think that Knight may get the edge from Coyle.

If Mark Davies is fit then he should play with Muamba and Elmander should go back up top. We can always revert and bring Klasnic on and push Elmo back if we need to during the game.

For me Knight just shades it, If Mavies isn't fit I wouldn't be too upset with the team that played today with Robo in for Alonso and either Klasnic or Rodrigo in for Sturridge.

How about both?

Play Knight and Wheater as centre-back pairing, Cahill in midfield and Elmo back up front to replace Sturridge.

I do admit it's slightly mental to be trying this in a semi-final.

Cahill is not Sergi Busquets.

Tough decision. They are both good players.

Let Cahill decide who he is more comfortable with.

Wheater. More committed in the tackle.
As for Zat against Stoke.

I've seen nothing from Wheater to suggest he wouldn't have done exactly the same. When faced with Ashley Young in the box he decided not to bother with a tackle at all and opt instead for a big back body drop.

I'll stick with my previous position that there is absolutely nothing between them, they might as well be the same player. Toss a coin, drop the one with the higher win bonus, I'm not that arsed.
