I can't see how anyone can disagree with that. We're playing catchup.

Oh, I expect some can.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Completely agree. And if we want to avoid the lottery of the play offs then there is even more catching up to do and even less margin for error.

I can't be the only one who would really really really really prefer to avoid the Play-offs.

The Wanderers are coming up the hill boys,
They all laugh at us, they all mock at us,
They all say our days are numbered,

Yes, you are. I'd prefer the play-offs to automatic promotion. So would everyone.

We all would. However does anyone realistically think automatic promotion is still on?

I think we'd be pretty arrogant to expect or even hope for that at this stage.

We left it too late to make up that griound IMO, barring an absolutely miraculous run.

Although yesterday's point was, in itself, a good thing, the fact remains that we are now 2pts further from the play off places than we were before the game.

As DSB pointed out a few weeks ago, the historical data are very consistent: you need 92pts (an average of 2ppg) for automatic promotion and 69pts (av. 1.5ppg) to finish sixth. A third of the way through the season, those stats appear to be holding true: the top two are on 2ppg and the team in sixth are on 1.69ppg.

To be promoted automatically means we need 72pts from the remaining 30 games (2.4ppg!) - for example, win 23, draw 3, lose 4. That doesn't seem realistic to me, so we ought to be thinking in terms of play offs. That would require 49pts from 30 (1.63ppg) - eg, win 13, draw 10, lose 7. On the face of it, that ought to be achievable. But, of course, it would require a significant improvement on our performance to date.
