The Next Season Thread

Post by bw@bw » Sun May 22, 2011 7:54 pm

Other threads are being diverted to talk about next seasons prospects - too confusing for me so I thought I would start a specific one.

Rose tints or doomed?

Every year I look at the finances and wonder how we can go forward whilst everyone else has pots more money to spend.

This year we have moved forward in points if not position.
And the highs have been much higher than recent years

We have had two big bonuses which helped that - Holden and Sturridge.
Sturridge for his goals, and Holden both for being constructive, but also for keeping the pressure off the defence
Without them we look an ordinary team.

At the moment I can't see where additional points for next year are going to come from.
But the positive attitude that OC exudes makes me think he will find a way

I suspect it will more likely come from strengthening the midfield rather than finding a Sturridge replacement.

So predictions for now
Money will keep us stuck in 10th-12th place

And I would be happy with 48 points as a move forward.

Cups? Depends on the draws
What goes around may still come around

It's hard to predict, there will be a lot of rebuilding and at present we don't know how much Owen will have to spend.

We live in interesting times.

It's a tough rebuilding time at the end of this season. The final positions wouldn't have done us any favours whatsoever in terms of rebuilding. Reflect time now on whats been a good season, semi final of a major trophy and a good season to boot. Could've had a finish to the season that justified how well its gone but alas it wasn't to be. Losing 2-0 to City is nothing to be ashamed of. I feel confident we can progress next season.

You mention money, but how many clubs with more than us have we finished above?

This summer will prove if Coyle is a good manager, lets stop being blind and realise there is as big a job rebuilding this team as Lee had and failed to do after BSA's glory years.
For me too many of our current side have shown their true present value at the back end of this season and it ain't good enough.

SKD's days are surely numbered Wet Spam and spuds apart most deal with the "Davies threat" far too easily now, Petrov is a couple of games a season showboater, we have two fullbacks one whose awareness and positioning is awful the other dies when any pace goes near him. Zat nightmare is just that way too often sorry but Mavies has yet too prove he is worthy of the praise heaped on him by producing more consistantly and stay off the treatment table, Cohnn will hopefully be gone and klasnic well being just a sub ain't going to cut at this level add in a fading keeper and the job is massive just to avoid relegation next year. There has been none of the all together spirit shown earlier this season of late and some of that must rest with Coyle himself.

I just hope Holden comes back as good as before. BWFCs history is littered with players who were never the same after a long term injury (Coleman, Laville, Walker, O'Brien). I have failt that Coyle is the right man to guide us through but next season is a big big test of his abilities.

It's impossible to say, and it will be up to and even after August.

The bottom 13 teams in the league are not much better or worse than us. We could go either way.

That said, I want to enjoy my summer, so I won't presume doom.

Reflects my sentiments, it's going to be interesting to see what players are brought in, this is probably as big as when LSL had to bring in 8/9 players although I have faith that Owen knows which players we need as opposed to trying to wholesale change the style of how we play

8) I'm trying to remain positive about things. Shite end of season, yes it was; but now I feel much more excited about who maybe coming to the club, rather than worrying about who's leaving. In the past, I've always been of the opinion 'oh if he goes, we're fecked!' Not now; not after wembley, not after a totaly shite five weeks. Nobody in a white shirt can feel they have a berth in the first team for next season. Coyle isn't a mug, he knows what will improve the side and how to improve the way we play, be it in attack or defence. I'm rather excited about the future.

For me we're going to do well not to be in a relegation battle next season.

The size of change required in one close season when we've got no money and are losing our best defender and top scorer along with a host of others. Were it happening to any other club I'd predict trouble, and so would most on here.

Its happening to us and I can't see us replacing them with established players and therefore we'll be gambling by losing quality through transfers and age in some cases and replacing them with what'll likely be potentials and risks!

We're almost asking for miracles.

But sometimes, miracles do happen! Fingers crossed.

agree with a lot of content of above but not some of the pessimistic conclusions.
i reckon the psychological damage of the semi from hell took a helluva toll on the club and skewed our final position. for 9/10 of the season we were miles better than Newcastle,Villa, Sunnerlan (who are my early tips for relegation next season), Fulham WBA and even Stoke.
we have played some good stuff this season.
OC will have a clear out this close season
keep the faith

He'll do well to shunt Klasnic out seeing as he bunged him a decent deal 9 months back

Doesn't sound so good for Gardner..though odd he doesn't want to sign players with medical previous, then signs Klasnic and Petrov

Next season? I'm just grateful that this shite is over until August. I can do something I enjoy for the next few weekends.

Bollocks.

Depends who we buy. In the meantime, it's all wild speculation.
