Bolton chairman Phil Gartside says the club have come up short in their efforts to bring former loan star Rodrigo back to the Reebok Stadium.

The Spain U21 international spent the 2010/11 campaign with the Trotters, with parent club Benfica keen for him to experience regular first-team football.

The Brazil-born striker impressed during his time in England and returned to Portugal a better player for the time he spent in the Premier League.

Bolton were keen to make his move permanent, with Owen Coyle aware that Rodrigo's potential could be put to good use.

They have, however, been left frustrated in their efforts, with Benfica reluctant to see the highly-rated youngster move on.

"I have tried everything to push through a deal for Rodrigo but the president of Benfica says he is not for sale at any price," Gartside told O Jogo.

"President (Luis Filipe) Vieira says it not a question of money and that his decision is based on sporting factors.

"Benfica do not want to part with this player because they have high hopes for him.

"If Rodrigo had been with us this season, I am convinced that our situation would be different. Bolton need his goals but it is not possible.

"I am convinced that, in a few years' time, Rodrigo will be a global star."

Not doubting Rodrigo's potential, but what a load of bollocks.

So, less than two weeks before the transfer window ***SLAMS SHUT***. Any predictions? I'm prepared for a wimper: a Pratley-esque clunker from the Championship who Coyle has apparently been "chasing since his days at Burnley." And... yeah, that's it.

Mauro Zarate anyone?

According to a piece on TalkSh*** QPR are favourites but we are also 'monitoring the situation' so is that Coyle stood at a computer going 'Oh aye, he's good?'

That rodrigo thing is ridiculous - hasn't he been first choice for benfica since getting in the side? Oh aye phil he's gonna jack that in to come to a relegation battle at somewhere he barely played last season. feck me I think we are losing the plot sometimes.

Anyone who believes that Rodrigo story is from the month is mad.

So clearly a re-do of a summer story

Impressive foresight from Big Phil in that case.

After initially breaking the site several times and requiring keveh and his crack team of web-wizards to get it out there, we can finally give you the loan transfer article Buddy, Can You Spare a Diamond? by Dave Sutton's barnet, over on the front page. Give it a read, it's pretty good.

Papiss Demba Rodney Cisse to Nuke'hassle for less than £10m quid; now that's what I call a deal (Carroll for Cisse and a bag of cash). Why can't Bolton reinvest the Cahill euro-squillions into up and coming talent who'll be worth more in the future???
