Burnden.
BURNDEN. April 25th 1997.
Having a root through a load of papers, books and things that you keep for your own, sometimes daft, reasons, I came across a couple of souvenirs of the sad event of the final demise of Burnden Park. It’s hard to realise that come next April it will be fifteen years now since it happened, but time marches on and all things change with its passing. Sensibly, few would ever want to change our clean, modern stadium back to the days of the ancient, aging edifice that was for so long the home of the Trotters. It leaked, the toilets were a health hazard and the embankment in Winter was a draughty, freezing influenza trap. That said it was a place of great memories, magnificent atmosphere and the very heart of our town. Having a read through these brought a lot of those memories back. I’m sure quite a few folk have these sort of souvenirs, and I know a lot here were at the last game, but I Just thought I’d share the pics with those that don’t. All brought a bit of a lump to the throat for things past but never forgotten.

And the programme from the fateful day:

Lost my stub years ago but the programme's mint condition. Great idea on the framing, might do that.Bruce Rioja wrote: I have my programme and ticket stub framed.

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Should be, shouldn't it. but, alas, no.officer_dibble wrote:Wtw - is that a lowry style? programme will be at base camp somewhere no doubt but ticket stub? presumably in the days of season ticket vouchers...this is match 21 etc
It's a really boring painting, commissioned by the club, but it commemorates a significant night in my life (and dad's and daughter's). And I preferred it to the chunk of concrete from Burnden Terrace on a plinth that was also on offer at the time.
I rarely do programmes, but my dad's from that night went, i think, to one of our Oz posters as I disposed of his collection earlier this year.

Re: Burnden.
Bruce is referring to the original 'going to the match'
your referring to, and helpfully confirming existance of, a modern copy done of burnden (original going to the match being based on pre normid burnden). Anyone know if these are still readily available?

Re: Burnden.
Thinking about it, it must irk United just a teeny bit that the P.F.A paid nearly two million quid for a painting by Stretford's favourite son.... of Bolton Wanderers football stadium.
Could be a chant for United games:
Of all the famous football grounds,
Owned by the money powers,
Nobody painted Stretford,
But Lowry painted ours.

So instead of helping lower league pro's pay their mortgages when their clubs decide the can't pay them their wages for 3 months, they're buying art? Nice of them
