January Plan.....
Ok, so forgetting the arguments, it looks like Coyle is here to stay for the immediate future at least.
Therefore, January is our chance to change things....
Its fairly obvious that we will have to sell Cahill to do this, so it all hinges on that and how much we get.
But what would you invest on in January?
Centre half to replace Cahill? (Ricketts may be back by then along with Knight, and Wheater could we muddle through?)
A left back?
Central midfield?
Wide man?
Striker?
Personally when I look at each area, on paper we don't seem too bad. The reality is not matching expectations though!

Re: January Plan.....
defo need a new left back and left winger
Boyata could be paired up with wheater in CD
Which means Ricketts will probably play RB
We have enough numbers in defensive midfield but unfortunately no-one is that good going forward
we have four strikers so no need to spend more there, ngog needs to start doing his stuff, no good giving him a go in the last 10 minutes when we've got 5 players left on the pitch
The team is just a bit of a mess really, not enough quality and too many average players. hopefully Chungy is making good progress as then we could play him on the right and Eagles left. a lot of work to do though

Re: January Plan.....
Way I see it is that whilst Robbo is a problem, I'm not sure a left back is going to change our fortunes.
The hard thing this time is that its not obvious how one or two players would change us?
Before we've usually lacked either a midfield player or a striker and its been glaringly obvious.
As it stands I feel between M Davies, Pratley, Muamba and NRC we should be able to field a decent enough midfield. The four strikers we have should be enough...
We're a bit short of wide options but then Kakuta hasn't been given a decent try and we have an expensive player in Petrov stuck on the bench.....
Can't help but think that on paper we should be ok....
I'd be tempted to say that IF Ricketts gets fully fit, to use him at centre half, Mears should be back for RB along with Riley, and to strengthen our wide options as a winger who can deliver a cross and stretch teams whilst also protecting Robinson a bit more could help with our shape and balance!

Re: January Plan.....
Lots has been made of the difference in our squad between this season and last. A squad that but for one result going a different way, might have finished 9th/8th (only 8th with a helluva lot of GD).
Certainly one result going a different way, suggests that the players we had when we finished the season are capable.
Key losses were Elmander - generally accepted as being shite, Taylor - generally accepted as being shite, CYL/Holden - injury, Moreno - not sure everyone had come to the conclusion he was shite, and Cohen - generally accepted as being shite.
We've added - Mears - Injured but because we've seen little of him must be way better than Steinsson, N'Gog - unsure whether he's shite, but should be at least as shite as Elmander so a direct replacement, Eagles - better shite than Taylor? dunno looks like the same sorta shite to me, Kakuta - must be about the same shite as Moreno, Tuncay/NRC - probably not as good as CYL/Holden, Boyata - a huge improvement on Steinsson who's really shite. Pratley - class shite compared to Cohen.
All in all, it looks about the same strength even taking into account injuries on the basis of general shiteness.
Now in the spirit of rewriting history for the benefit of a likeable manager, they apparently weren't shite enough that they nearly finished 9th. We were that shite that we were lucky to stay up.
We've shipped 56 (last season) and 67 (the season before - not quite our Premiership Record of 71 when we finished bottom) goals in the last two seasons, we've managed 34 so far this season so look like we're on target for one of our shitest levels of goal leakage ever. How much will we miss Cahill in that morass of shite?
On that basis, I'd re-invest some of the £xm to replace the manager, as I believe our squad is still shite enough to stay up, without Cahill but with the right management.

Re: January Plan.....
I think danny rose from spurs would be a good signing he's like shit of a shovel and play's on either wing, and nedum onuoha from city would give us that pace at the back and reads the game well only 25 too so would be a good replacement for cahill. I like nicky maynard at bristol city cracking striker who would do well in the premiership, he has it all this lad to be a success but would cost 3-4m.

Re: January Plan.....
Maynard is out of contract in the summer. Hopefully Bristol City will get themselves enough out of it there'll be no real risk of going down, so they won't have the 'Cahill' dilemma. Could be worth a shout. Otherwise, f*ck knows. A miracle? Wingers probably best shout.

I didn't realise maynard is out of contract in the summer so we could possibly get him for 1-2m in jan. A miracle, that could be candyman i'll shout his name three times during every game then he will appear on the pitch and his swarm of bees with attack the other team and we'll come out winners!Prufrock wrote:Maynard is out of contract in the summer. Re: January Plan.....
Like already said.. I would love the elk back but he will want a big contract somewhere for his final payday.. Maybe Kalou would be more of a possibility? AVB has apparently said he can go so maybe do something with the Cahill transfer? Wouldn't mind Josh Mceachran on loan to give us some calm in the middle of the field and someone to pick the right pass until Holden returns..
I might be wrong but Kakuta is only on a 6 month loan isn't he? so would allow the Mceachran loan to happen.

Worked with Wilshere but we had more about us then IMO!

I replied to the other thread before I saw you'd done a similar thing here. Whatever you think of Taylor, Eagles has been one of our best players for the last few games. May be similar to Taylor but everyone else isn't performing, I spose.Worthy4England wrote:Eagles - better shite than Taylor? dunno looks like the same sorta shite to me
The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.

Well who else is out there with his talent who we could get?BWFC_Insane wrote:Young lad to sort out our midfield? Not for me.ChrisC wrote:Like already said.. Sturridge last year also made a huge impact on the team .. so that's two young lads who have come in and made a huge impact.

Re: January Plan.....
That Mcceccecceracan lad is a good shout. He's a very useful ball player, something we're missing in the centre of the park. Would possibly mean us playing a 4-3-3 with 2 busy lads (Muamba and NRC) around him to do the shite jobs and free him up.
But then it comes down to, who could we play as the 1 up front... N'gog is probably the best option there, but he's not a goal threat.
Besides, we look pretty clueless playing a 4-3-3 / 4-5-1 on the most part, even more so than our usual 442
