Strikers - Stat Attack

Post by boltonboris » Tue Dec 13, 2011 10:25 am

Did you know – according to the official BWFC website; David N’gog has scored 21 goals IN HIS CAREER. Yakubu has scored 10 since September.

N’gog 21 in 112 apps 18.75% ratio - pathetic.
Super Kev 130 in 643 20.22% ratio – poor and getting worse.
Robbie B 165 in 656 25.15% ratio – wow, better than I thought but mainly at lower levels.
Klasnic 84 in 265 31.70% ratio – mainly used as sub so not bad.
Tuncay 108 in 305 35.41% ratio – not bad at all.
Average 508 in 1981 25.64% ratio – its is expected that (based on career averages) in every 4 BWFC games, a striker will score once….

Let's pop down't road..

Roberts 160 in 494 32.39% ratio – unfortunately only 18% at Rovers but still better than N’gog’s career!
Yakubu 167 in 395 42.28% ratio – of a king

Most surprising of all of this is that (big fat):
Benni McC 163 in 380 42.89% ratio - now plays for Orlando Pirates (12/17 - 70.58%!!). I thought he ate himself to death.

N'gog is currently on a goal for every 462 minutes played.

So 1 in 5 if he averages 90 mins a game

but it is a problem...

the total goals scored is distorted by the 4-0 and the 5-0 - very nearly half our goals were scored just in those two games...

in ONE THIRD of our league games - we haven't scored any

in OVER A THIRD of our league games we have only scored one

It may be somewhat of a problem, but the biggest, most pressing issue to sort out is to start keeping clean sheets.

If we are continually conceeding, 2/3 or more a game, even with the sharpest attack you're going to be struggling.

Keep a clean sheet against Fulham and we might nick a 1-0. If we can become more solid as a side I think confidence would increase.

Unless I'm reading that wrong Sturridge and Petrov had better efficiencies than Elmander last term? Though Elmander did play half the season out of position!

Goals and assists per minute, yes. But Elmander was pretty consistent too, which was one thing that he was lambasted for.

Think he was in the top 3 for average ground covered during the games too last time out.

All round he's a big miss.

No, now that he's left us he's gone from pariah to messiah. A bit like Taylor. And Steinnson since he got dropped. And Muamba since he got dropped.

The idea that you'd have to be the messiah, or even any good, to get in our team at the moment is a bit ridiculous.

I'd take Elmander, Taylor, Steinsson and Muamba over N'Gog, Eagles, Boyata and Pratley.

And after we lose a couple of games with Elmander, Taylor, Steinsson, and Muamba in the team we can make them the target of our vitriol again, and pronounce Ngog, Eagles, Boyata, and Pratley the new saviours.

That is not what is happening though. Elmander was clearly our best striker last year, bar Sturridge who was never ours...

We are missing him.

Taylor likewise, though thats probably more down to LCY's injury than owt else!
