Waiting in the wings.
Thanks to Longy's decent stream link, I watched the reserves take on Liverpool away, last night. Mentioned on the streams link but worth a general observation:
Like most money clubs, Liverpool have strength in depth and they have some really good young players. Our lads managed a creditable 1-1 draw and could have taken the points. Yes, the Scousers had their chances, but our defence coped quite well and Boyata in particular did well with some tricky stuff from down their left side. For them, Stirling, Ngoo and a young Portuguese kid called Silva were a real handful. Their central defenda, Masa?, who's played every game this season was a rock and well worthy of comment.
On our side we played decently enough and Tuncay, who played 90mins, was impressive. He scored the goal and was full of running. One particular piece of skill had him bring a difficult ball down, shake off the attentions of three defenders and slot a fantastic ball into the box for O'Halloran to net. Unfortunatelyy the ref decided he was offside (questionable) but it was a goal of the month candidate in execution. Young Lynch, in the nets, impressed with some decent saves and looks a prospect despite being a bit short in inches. Sean Davies looks to be getting there but isn't quite there yet. Both he and Robbie Blake were a bit unfortunate in coming up against a good keeper from free kicks.
Obedayi was, well, Obedayi. Somebody should talk to that lad about the simple side of football. He's no JJ Okocha but constantly takes on three and four defenders and loses out when a pass or lob into the box would be far more effective. Still a headless chicken with no real input at all. Their equaliser was frustrating; big defender coming into the box like atrain, a-la Hreiderson and co and heading home almost unchallenged. Oh for Dennis Law or Jurgen Klinsman to teach pleayer how to get up there early and win headers.
All in all, Biased Scouse commentators apart, a decent game and we did well enough against a good side. Encouraging.

Must admit I laughed when I saw his name, but that's what it is.thebish wrote:can we buy Ngoo - so that we have both Ngoo and Ngog?

Still maintain giving Obadeyi a new contract was a strange decision... He's 22 already - a million miles off the first team (he last played for us 3 full years ago) and not done well enough on any loan spell to entice a decent offer from the lower leagues ala Danny Ward.
Logic can only be that he's not on a lot and we'd get that offer in, but it's not happening is it.

Didn't we pay some not insignificant cash for him?Athers wrote:Still maintain giving Obadeyi a new contract was a strange decision...

Not insignificant true
Found this from BEN in Sept 07

Think we'll be alright on the next £850k mind!TEMITOPE Obadeyi's international progress could end up costing Wanderers a cool million.
The deal that took the Birmingham-born striker from Coventry City to the Reebok two years ago cost the Whites an initial £150,000 with increments rising to £1m if he ever plays for England. That might have sounded pie in the sky when Tope, as he is known, was just a promising 16-year-old. But he is already playing for the U19s and looks destined for big things, judging by his eye-catching performance in his latest international appearance.

Re: Waiting in the wings.
there's quite a lengthy match report here:
http://mannyroad.com/boltons-young-guns ... 0/01/2012/
reporter not impressed with Sean Davis or Obadeyi....
for those that wouldn't recognise him - allegedly, this is "hard man" Sean Davis..

A worrying early error from Dedryck Boyata, turning out at centre half for this one...
Re: Waiting in the wings.
Boyata was centre back and out of his depth
Davis was the best player on the pitch
