FA Cup 4th Round: BWFC v Swansea

Post by Verbal » Mon Jan 23, 2012 10:07 am

So then.

Are we heading into this game with renewed confidence after playing very well and beating a (admittedly poor) Liverpool side?

Hopefully we can show that energy again, at least. Will Swansea play a weakened team? Will we play a weakened team? I think changes are likely on both sides to be honest, but I'd still like us to give it a good go. It's quite the winnable tie. We have Arsenal to think about the Wednesday after; they have Chelsea to contend with on the Tuesday.

I'd personally go with the same team that played on Saturday. However obviously with the game at home against Arsenal such a short time after I wouldn't be surprised if there are changes.

Thoughts?

We have to give 100% against Arsenal on the Wednesday so I'd be happy to sacrifice several players for this one.

Arsenal will score against us and if we're on our game we can outscore or at least match them given their fragile backline, but Mark Davies and N'Gog slogging their guts out playing chase in this one won't help that.

Hmm tough call this now after the renewed hope we have after beating Liverpool....

I sort of think beating Swansea would give us momentum. At the same time I think we're in for one hell of a fight to stay up this year and all focus should be on that.

Arsenal are beatable. Even a point in that game could be precious.

I'm afraid that the pragmatic thing to do is to sacrifice the cup to give ourselves a real shot in the league.

What we don't want above all else is a draw.

Indeed, and as I said I wouldn't be surprised (or sad) to see changes. Though I'd quite like the back five to stay the same again to build some cohesion of sort.

We can't they're playing in the African Nations Cup.

Or just a Coyle/Nixon brainfart...

Oh Ream well his work permit appeal is today, so I guess if that goes well, he could be in.

Le Toux is on trial. So doubt he'll be signed before then, if indeed he is to be....

Same way that Germany is composed of Turkish and Polish players, because Obama's grandad was Kenyan, America are now eligible to play for Africa.

I don't believe professional footballers aren't fit enough to play two games in a week. Just dunk them in the ice bath.

It'd be 3 in a week technically, the Norwich game is also bigger than Swansea and I'd imagine we'll put a huge amount of effort into Arsenal.

Unless you're Michael Essien c.2009 it's going to have an effect.

Swansea aren't 100% safe by any means and they have Chelsea as their next league game. I reckon whichever side he puts out OC must send them out for a result to keep up that winning mentality in the dressing room. Won't be a cake walk that's for sure.

What with OC dropping Klasnic for two whole Premiership games, and him trying for Ismael Bangoura in the transfer window, I reckon I'll be dropping Ivan myself (from my Fantasy Football team: he's actually produced 0.75 points per £m per game which compares well with Nani's 0.8 and is better than Bale's). But hopefully OC will start him for the Swansea game.

For some reason, despite how gash we've been for a large part of this season I've still felt all along that we'll end up in the later stages of the cup again. I've fancied us to get to the Quarters or maybe even Semis again, for some daft reason - bar us drawing an "elite" club.

I'd rather us be knocked out now rather than suffer at Wembley though.

Strong Wanderers team for this as Coyle often plays in the cups, and a 2-1 win.
