Apart from Maher & Threlkeld makes good sense (& my view on Jamie Thomas). We need a hit man on Pratley and Amos. Mavies will get a fee ... just smaller than we might have got previously. The remaining squad, with proper management and a bit of character .... given the level we're now at should be capable. I'm not saying they are, or will be, just should be.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.
"I understand you are a very good footballer" ... "I try".

Think there might be a few more than 21 retained because I'm not sure how many of the youths who haven't been near the first team are on professional contracts. I'll try to add that info when I can. We should have enough to get by but there is a worry that we will downgrade the academy status again to save more money, at which point the EPPP compensation for any kids we do produce becomes so laughably low as to make very little financial sense - a lot of lower-league clubs have simply given up.
bobo the clown wrote:Apart from Maher & Threlkeld makes good sense (& my view on Jamie Thomas).
I haven't seen Thomas play, but he was the U21 top scorer. I can't imagine he was on much at all - literally £200 a week (£10k per year) or something - so it seems bizarre not to sign him on, send him on loan and at the bare minimum try to sell him with clauses.

And the fact that having earlier extended the deal for the less impressive Alex Finney we allegedly offered Thomas, goalie Campbell and Maher and Threlkeld contracts then withdrew them... you know I'm no panic-fanny but frankly that worries me a lot as to the state of our finances. I'm genuinely sad for the youngsters but I'm more worried as to what this rather suspicious turn of events might say about our long-term future. Any manager coming in will be asking why we can't afford to keep youngsters who we saw as good enough for Championship football.

S'funny how I recall the majority of posters on here (myself included, probably) celebrating the length of the contract initially handed to Amos. What we hadn't imagined was just how shit he would be under the pressure of being a No.1 with no real competition for his place (hahaha Rachubka hahaha) in a 46-game season in a league as ruthless as the Champo.

^^ Not sure we knew it involved £16k per week or how significant £16k per week was going to become, not long after...

Amos had a bad season, but he's still a good 'keeper and will prove that. At 26 he's also still got time to improve.

Just a shame we can't afford him.

If some of those on that list ''want'' to play we have quite a decent team, however we have seen that quite a few of them couldn't give a toss.

He hasn't played much for Wiggin: 4 league starts, 5 sub appearances and 3 JPT games. Had some injuries and seems to have been played further forward anyway (not that we're blessed with wide men either). The pie-f&ckers ended up loaning Stephen Warnock, the guy we couldn't afford.

Not wishing to appear ungrateful for your excellent work DSB but you missed Thorpe out! :D . Is he permanent?

Have I got this list right too?

Alnwick - keeper
Thorpe - utility player
Anderson - striker
Ameobi and Henry - attacking wide men?

No problem. Thorpe wasn't confirmed when I clocked off; will add him later (not now on fiddly iPhone). Your descriptions are right - Thorpe started as a CB and has played other positions (inc RB, DM) since.
