That's a fcking huge list now. 3 teams worth excluding a few we have out on loan...
Yeah, we've gone through a fair few players, but it looks flexible to me in summer - the majority of this squad is playing for its future. And if we play tonight, around half the team is playing to ensure it's not kicked out on Saturday...
Losing to Salford is still an instant dismissal offence in my view. We beat them 2-0 with our previous set of cloggers. Should be at least 5 this time around! :D
Heh! I wasn't making a point about last weekend – I don't expect Evatt to make six changes per game, and neither does he ("We want people to nail down positions because if they are doing that, it normally means the team is playing well and getting the right results") - but there's now decent competition for places.

No word that I've seen. Crellin is still here but his age means he doesn't count on the quota.

Here's who we've got:

Matt Gilks (4/6/82) – no contract length given but presume 12-month
Alex Baptiste (31/1/86)
Harry Brockbank (26/9/98)
Ryan Delaney (6/9/96)
Jamie Mascoll (15/3/97) – club has 1yr extension option
Gethin Jones (13/10/95) – club has 1yr extension option
Jak Hickman (11/9/98) – club has 1yr extension option
Declan John (30/6/95) – loan; Swansea contract ends summer 2021
Andrew Tutte (21/9/90)
Lloyd Isgrove (12/1/93)
Zack Elbouzedi (5/4/98) – loan; Lincoln contract ends summer 2021
Marcus Maddison (26/9/93) – loan; Charlton contract ends summer 2021
Dapo Afolayan (11/9/97) – loan; West Ham contract ends summer 2021
Shaun Miller (25/9/87)
Arthur Gnahoua (18/9/92)
Ricardo Santos (18/6/95)
Reiss Greenidge (10/8/96)
Liam Edwards (2/10/96)
MJ Williams (6/11/95)
Kieran Lee (22/6/88)
Brandon Comley (18/11/95)
Antoni Sarcevic (13/3/92)
Nathan Delfouneso (2/2/91)
Eoin Doyle (12/3/88)

I make that 24, so two of them will have to go unregistered. Edwards would be reasonable – he's also under contract for next season, it's not like we're cruelly setting him adrift - but the other one is more up in the air. It could be Mascoll, or possibly Hickman; either could be told to work for a contract extension. Or we could deregister Gilks considering we've got Jensen and Crellin – we would be more likely to be allowed an emergency registration if one or both got injured, but not if Jensen just turns out to be a crap as Crellin...

For the record, there's also these:

"UNDER-21" (EFL definition: born on or after 1/1/99)
Lukas Jensen (18/3/99) – loan; Burnley contract ends summer 2021 with club holding 1yr extension option
Billy Crellin (13/6/00) – loan; Fleetwood contract ends summer 2022 with club holding 1yr extension option
Matthew Alexander (7/5/02)
Ben Jackson (22/2/01) – loan; Huddersfield contract ends summer 2022 with club holding 1yr extension option
Adam Senior (20/1/02)
Sonny Graham (10/6/02)
Callum King-Harmes (19/4/02) – on youth loan to Bamber Bridge
George Thomason (12/1/02)
Ronan Darcy (4/11/00)
Dennis Politic (5/3/00)

LOANED OUT
Mo Faal (1/7/97) – loaned to Barnet until summer
Liam Gordon (15/5/99) – loaned back to Dag & Red to end of season
Ali Crawford (30/7/91) – loaned to Tranmere to end of season

Could be, but I don't wish to overclaim. Let's keep the footnote and maybe all will become clear in time.

Brilliant. It feels great to finally be in a position where we can sign up our prized assets to longer contracts.

Some interesting quotes here from Declan John in an interview I assume he did this weekend just gone:

https://clwbpeldroed.org/2021/03/15/dec ... wanderers/

“I’m kind of just taking each game as it comes at the minute,” revealed the former Bluebirds defender.

“My contract is up with Swansea at the end of the season so perhaps I’ll just take a break and a bit of time in the summer and just go from there really.

“Obviously it’s all about trying to finish this season on a high, you know I can’t really look any further than the end of this season.

“I think I can still play in the Championship week in week out, I back myself to do that so I just have to keep working hard and see where it goes.”

He clearly wants to be playing in the Championship and backs himself to do that. If we go up, I think we'd have a good chance of signing him permanently this summer - our facilities are Champ standard, you'd imagine he'd be a nailed on starter in a team aiming for promotion and I'd be willing to bet that Evatt won't hesitate to offer John a decent wage, as he's already proven his quality in the short time he's been here.

However, I can't see him staying around if we're still in L2 come August, which would be pretty frustrating after our struggles with the LB position for the first half of this season.

Yes I saw that a week or so ago. Quite refreshing to see someone being quite candid about how they see themselves relative to where they are currently playing, it probably is relatively common on the loanee side of things but cool to see anyway.

It also brought to mind a quote from Evatt toward the end of February on signing John:
"That’s what we’re looking to do, that’s what we want, but for us to be able to sign players like him, we have to progress and he has to see that progression.
John knows he's better than League Two, Evatt from my reading of that knows that as well and it's up to him to sell the future of Bolton to players. No matter how many leagues above the oppo we look for the rest of the year, we ain't playing Championship next season. It's a question of whether Evatt can sell players on the chance of building a future Championship-level BWFC. I'd hope the progression he mentioned has made the players see that as well as us, but I'm not really sure how much of that will matter come the end of the season when other teams can offer more money and a higher level of competition.

The gap between average Championship salary and average League One salary is huge...I'd be delighted if we could retain him, but I'm not hopeful...

We might end up being a worthwhile proposition for John. He's firmly got himself a starting berth in our squad, he'll be getting plenty of football and not instant directives to play long ball so he may enjoy it more. Of course he's better than league two but the Championship may prove a difficult one to turn down.
