I think never better emphasised than the Barnsley game. Whatever midfield three you permed weren't going to physically match Barnsley nor were they 'that good' that they didn't have to.
If the Chislett link is real then that doesn't look like changing any time soon. Another good player, but ne who offers more of that same "hard working, technical and a bit small by modern standards" into the options.

If he scores goals more regularly that would help if we're going to accommodate another of those types.

This is the thing. Our new players could be 5ft 10 (like Dion and Chislett), 5ft 7 (as Messi is) or 2ft 6 as long as they help us put the round thing more frequently in the netty thing. But it's an "as long as". Chislett's two previous seasons yielded 3 in 36 and 2 in 36, but maybe he's found a Nolanesque niche.

He's been deliberately put into more goal scoring positions by AFC this season. At one stage they had him on corners, but they started using him on the edge of the box and he snaffled one or two from there. They've also tasked him with a lot of third man runs and asked him to run into space inside the box when he's wide, rather than hang around to stretch play.

There are definite similarities to Scott Twine of the 20/21 season, where people suddenly realised they might have a goal scorer on their hands if they tweaked his running patterns. That's not to say he's due a 20 goal season in League One, but I'd say he's found a niche rather than just having a purple patch.

Suddenly realising that I may have watched too much of AFC Wimbledon...

We want to avoid players, especially those we are happy with and want to keep, going into the last year of their contract because it makes us vulnerable. We wanted to protect ourselves, give us some security and also reward them for their good effort so far. They know there is more to come and we are looking forward to improving them again.

So basically if a Johnston extension isn't announced in the next week, we can start discussing replacement planning...

(Wouldn't surprise me if Geth gets +1)

I think that's probably correct.

Johnston, Santos, Morley, Charles and Toal are all players who we need to get tied down. We don't want to have 4 players going into their final year next summer and put ourselves in a dodgy negotiating position following promotion. They should all be under contract until at least 2026 and I'd be looking at 2027 for a couple of them (possibly as a 2026+1 contract).

+1 for Jones seems sensible.

Good news on Gethin.
Age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill!

And the key to a result is a good :kettle:

Every so often I like to take a minute and remember how bad we used to be at contracts.

Yet more sensible work. Love it.

I was hoping Johnston would be announced today as one of the pre-recorded videos they did for Dempsey et al before leaving for Portugal.

Bother.

Friday today. With incoming signings understandably slowing, I’d have pegged it for today, were I a marketer with a calendar.

He had serious interest pre injury. Had he not got injured I think he'd likely have already gone.

Don't think he would be doing this if the ink isn't drying on a contract or the printer isn't at least spitting it out

DSB, does this mean that Tutte has left his B team role or just lack of updates?
