Do Your Bit.

Post by coffeymagic » Tue Apr 24, 2012 12:38 pm

I don't believe in God, or the afterlife or aliens or eskimos or any of that nonsense.

However I did once have a cardigan (yes they were fashionable once. I wasn't up with the fashion, as always I was six months behind the times - that's Walkden for you I suppose). It wasn't a particularly nice cardigan, it wasn't even a warm cardigan.

But it was magic.

If I wore it to games we didn't lose. I wore it all through our glory days of Division 4 and it was the SOLE reason we won promotion that season (well it wasn't Phil Neal's 'tactics' was it?). Indeed I nearly committed murder when I found out my mum had washed it.

'Washed it? WASHED IT? You better not have washed all the good luck out!' I told her.

I don't have that cardigan anymore and it shows but luckily I do have a magic radio. If I listen to it constantly from 10 mins before kick off to 10 mins after then we won't lose.

Leaving its side for seconds because there's some tosser at the door or the house is on fire ensures a goal at the wrong end. Turning it off confirms certain defeat.

So tonight. I'm not moving. The radio is going on and I am going to sit shouting abuse at it for the full duration and nothing NOTHING is going to make me move.

Not the kids crying, not an earthquake not even Jane from next door doing naked star jumps in the back yard (I can see that from our kitchen).

You must have some magic thing that helps the Wanderers. It's not as powerful as my cardi was, or to a lesser extent my radio is but it can help.

If you've got a lucky hat - wear it. If you once did a funny dance in your bedroom as Bolton scored a goal - re create it. Even if you have to crawl off your death bed to make yourself THAT special sandwich that once earned an away draw at Huddersfield I implore you to do what's necessary.

The Wanderers need all the help they can get.

It's up to us now.
I'm not asking you to 'think outside the box' I just wish you'd have a rummage around in it once in a while.

Any chance I can come and watch the game from your kitchen tonight? I'll bring my own binoculars and a bag of donuts...

I used to have a lucky woolly hat I wore during 1995. I lost about 3 stones in sweat at Wembley.

I've got a couple of Wanderers shirts and three special t-shirts (Super-Kev, Who shot Campo and Super john) and a big Lofty mascot, even Whites scarves and gloves.. Anytime I wear any of them, or produce Lofty, we lose. They're all staying firmly in the wardrobe.

I've tried every shirt & every clothing
Combination this year. I've worn the possible combinations of luck out desperately searching for one which works.

Do I have to go to Villa park naked then?

My 'Galacticos' shirt (2003 - 2005 home shirt) is laid out ready to put on as soon as I get home.

I've told the kid next door that his rabbit can have its foot back if we lose.

Fantastic post!

My dad and uncle used to have a lucky Bolton flat cap, which changed heads each time Bolton scored a goal (if they were watching a game together). It then went home with whoever was wearing it at the end of the game.

Seldom did the hat not change heads frequently. Great for making goals, that hat was. Less good for preventing the spread of hair-residing lice.

Lucky shirt on, which isn't actually a wanderers shirt. They are pretty much all cursed to not seeing a win so far.

Come on Whites I've done my bit.

One of the best posts I have read in a long time Coffey! Is it wrong that I might actually keep an eye on the Bolton score tonight? And I may even wear my lucky undies for you too :D
