Balesta went back to Spain scored loads of goals and got another Spanish cap after leaving us, and played for Athletico Madrid for a season. Definitely wasn't shite, just never did it for us... never really had the chance either given he was mainly used off the bench.

Always thought that Jared Borgetti had a similar thin time of it. A Lineker-esque attacker of the football that Allardyce was too clueless to get the best out of.

blake was not great but was never fit, i thought makula was our best striker ever, danny shittu was just overweight, armstrong was good, jardel wasent given a chance, bulent looked quite good, mears hasent played yet but i dont think he will be that good, elmander wopuld need to score 30 goals a season to live up to his price tag, cid and pratley good. dont remeber augestin fortune or perez. baa and samual better than stelios and sam ricketts

he was on loan and played six games having played for sevilla and nantes (much bigger clubs than us) he has played 4 times for portugal and was in the squad for the 2010 world cup. he has scored 70 goals in 198 games a better ratio than any of our current strikers

Cid. By a mile. There have been worse players, but they were ones who were cheap and cheerful bodies in squads. We supposedly beat off Juventus to sign this fella, he was meant to be brilliant, and he was absolute garbage. I can still see Andy Johnson scampering away from him down our left after the most telegraphed lunge ever. Oh dear.

i remember that goal but he was only like 21 and wasent meant to be our first team centre back. he retired last season at the age of 28 for some reason. i think he was mega injury prone

It wasn't the cost, it was the hype. Was announced really early (was an Allardyce parting gift, along with similarly highly rated Dzemaili, who did at least turn out to be good, but not for us). We'd supposedly beaten off Juventus and some other big club, Lyon maybe to get him. Highly rated future star, and was PAINFULLY bad.

He retired, I shit you not, because he wasn't getting a game back in France, and felt like he was cheating picking up a big wage every week for not playing. So decent guy it seems, but shit at football.
